NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday invited ideas from people on the design of Mission Swachh Bharat (Clean India).
“Yesterday (Thursday), I had a very fruitful meeting with ministers and officials on Mission Swachh Bharat, which would be launched Oct 2, 2014.
Mission Swachh Bharat aspires to realise Gandhiji’s dream of a clean India through ‘jan bhagidari’ (people’s participation).
Together, we can make a big difference,” Modi said in a tweet. Sharing the link to an open forum that has been created on mygov.nic.in, the prime minister invited suggestions on the mission.
“Please share your inputs in making Mission Swachh Bharat a success and laying the foundations of a Clean India on mygov.nic.in/group_info/swachh-bharat-clean-india,” he said. Modi had Thursday called for making Swachh Bharat a mass movement and linking it to economic activity.
The mission will aim “to create a Clean India of Gandhiji’s dreams by the Mahatma’s 150th birth anniversary in 2019”.
According to a PMO statement, Modi said all government departments will actively participate in this mission. Government offices up to panchayat level shall be involved in a cleanliness drive that shall be conducted from Sep 25 till Diwali.
Linking cleanliness to tourism and global interest in India, he said that world class levels of hygiene and cleanliness were required in India’s top 50 tourist destinations to bring about a paradigm shift in global perception.
He also reiterated his vision of solid waste management and waste water management through the public-private partnership in 500 towns and cities across India.
