Odisha – State-owned National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), has been selected for the prestigious President’s Award for excellent Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The Corporate Affairs department has chosen NALCO for introducing and implementing ‘Nalco ki Ladli’ scheme at the national level.
NALCO is a Navratna company under the Ministry of Mines.
In 2015, with a view of promoting, Prime Minister’s call for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, NALCO launched ‘Nalco ki Ladli’ scheme. Under the scheme, the company provides adoption of poor girl students to enable them to study and settle in life. At present, it has adopted 416 poor girl students from 66 villages living in the periphery of NALCO pants in Damanjodi, Angul and Pottangi in Odisha.
To ensure a holistic approach to education, beneficiaries are exposed to various programmes and co-curricular activities organized by the company from time to time, including sports activities, workshops, seminars and celebration of multiple events.
“What began as an initiative to empower the girl child through a CSR programme called ‘NALCO ki Ladli’ is turning out to be a powerful trigger for women empowerment”, said Dr Tapan Kumar Chand, CMD, NALCO.
To augment the scheme, the company has also launched an innovative Employee Social Responsibility (ESR) programme, under which, the employees of the company get a chance to adopt the ‘Ladlis’ and support their education. This programme will enable the company to augment the existing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program with ESR through direct participation of employees.
The company is also planning to launch this scheme at PAN India level, which will immensely contribute to girl child education & women empowerment.
