A Foundation of Responsibility: MCL’s CSR Philosophy

Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited’s approach to corporate social responsibility is deeply rooted in fostering long-term stakeholder value. Their CSR philosophy integrates business strategy with ethical, social, environmental, cultural, and economic considerations. This holistic view ensures that MCL’s operations contribute positively to the communities they serve, aligning with Section 135 and Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013, and related CSR Rules.

Exceeding the Mandate: Financial Highlights of FY 2025

For the fiscal year 2025, Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited reported an average net profit of Rs. 75.26 crores over the preceding three financial years. Based on this, the prescribed CSR expenditure, which is two percent of the average net profit, amounted to Rs. 15.05 lakhs. Demonstrating its strong resolve, the company has confirmed spending the entire Rs. 15.05 lakhs on its CSR activities, leaving no unspent amount for the year. This achievement signifies MCL’s dedication to fulfilling its social obligations without shortfall, a clear indicator of responsible corporate governance. The company’s overall financial performance for the year also indicates a solid foundation, with a standalone total income of Rs. 207.76 crores and profit after tax of Rs. 9.68 crores.

Impacting Lives: The RNS Hospital Initiative

At the heart of MCL’s CSR efforts for FY 2025 was a significant contribution to RNS Hospital, channeled through the RNS Trust. This initiative is specifically designed to serve the poor and economically backward classes in rural areas. By supporting RNS Hospital, Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited directly contributes to enhancing healthcare access and quality for vulnerable populations, thereby making a tangible difference in the lives of those most in need. This targeted approach underscores the company’s focus on addressing critical social challenges within its operational sphere.

Governance and Transparent Oversight

The strategic direction and oversight of MCL’s CSR initiatives are managed by a dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee. As of March 31, 2025, the committee comprises Satish Rama Shetty (Chairman & Managing Director and Chairman of the Committee), Vishwanath Shetty (Non-Executive Independent Director and Member), and Naveen Rama Shetty (Non-Executive Non-Independent Director and Member). The committee held one meeting during the year, on February 10, 2025, with all members in attendance, ensuring rigorous monitoring and adherence to the CSR policy and objectives. The Company Secretary acts as the Secretary to the CSR Committee, further ensuring compliance and meticulous record-keeping. The transparency of these efforts is reinforced by the availability of the CSR policy and approved projects on the company’s website, www.naveentile.com.

Broader Sustainability and Ethical Practices

Beyond direct community contributions, Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited integrates sustainability into its core operations. The company is actively involved in manufacturing sustainable tiles and prioritizes environmental conservation through its Solar and Wind energy plants, alongside an STP plant (Sewage Treatment Plant) to conserve nature and produce “Green tiles”. This commitment aligns with their vision to be a leader in the tile manufacturing industry by delivering high-quality tiles using sustainable manufacturing methods.

Furthermore, MCL’s dedication to ethical business practices extends to its human resources. The company places a strong emphasis on human resources development, providing appropriate training and guidance to employees to enhance their skills and value. The HR department actively works on initiatives for professional and personal development, ensuring a healthy and safe working environment for its 309 employees across all locations as of March 31, 2025. MCL maintains a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment at the workplace, ensuring compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition & Redressal) Act, 2013, and has reported no complaints in this regard during FY 2024-25. The company also fully complies with the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, upholding the rights and welfare of its female employees.

A Legacy of Quality and Growth

Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited, established in 1983, has a rich history as a pioneer in manufacturing world-class Vitrified and Ceramic tiles under the “NAVEEN” brand. With three large-scale, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Hubli, Sira (Karnataka), and Karaikal (Pondicherry), and technical collaborations with global leaders like Sacmi Imola and Breton, Italy, the company consistently produces a wide range of high-quality products. Their commitment to excellence is backed by dedicated R&D cells that constantly develop innovations in colors, designs, textures, finishes, and sizes, ensuring they stay ahead of global trends. This business strength provides the foundation for their robust CSR initiatives, demonstrating that financial success and social responsibility can indeed go hand-in-hand.

In essence, Murudeshwar Ceramics Limited’s CSR report for 2025 paints a picture of a company deeply invested in its community and environment. Their transparent and impactful spending on healthcare, combined with strong internal governance and sustainable operational practices, reflects a holistic approach to corporate citizenship. It serves as a testament that true leadership extends beyond market share to encompass a profound commitment to human well-being and a healthier planet.
