Central Railway Boosts Services for Mahaparinirvan Din
Mumbai (India CSR): In anticipation of Mahaparinirvan Din on December 6, commemorating Dr. B R Ambedkar’s death anniversary, the Central Railway (CR) has announced significant enhancements to its train services in Mumbai. The CR plans to operate 18 special long-distance trains and an additional 12 local services to manage the expected surge of visitors to the city.
Enhanced Security Measures
Recognizing the importance of safety during this busy period, additional personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Government Railway Police (GRP) are being deployed. Key stations like Dadar, where a large influx of people is expected, will see a notable increase in security presence. The deployment includes an additional 140 RPF and 250 GRP personnel at Dadar station, along with increased staff at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), and Kalyan stations.

Streamlined Station Management
To accommodate the heavy footfall, extra commercial staff will be deployed at strategic locations. Dadar station, a central hub for visitors paying tribute at Chaityabhoomi, will have 40 additional staff, while CSMT, Kalyan, and LTT will also see enhanced staff support. This measure aims to facilitate an easy flow of public movement.
Customer Service Enhancements
The CR is setting up additional enquiry and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counters, especially at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, and CSMT stations. Auto announcements and detailed information about special trains will be made available through railway apps and help desks at key stations.
Crowd Management Initiatives
To ensure smooth crowd movement, Dadar station will implement unidirectional entry and exit points. This strategy is designed to manage the large crowds expected to visit the city for the solemn occasion.
Health and Sanitation Provisions
The CR is not leaving any stone unturned when it comes to passenger welfare. Round-the-clock medical staff will be available at Dadar, Kalyan, Thane, and CSMT stations. Furthermore, maintenance of essential facilities like urinals, toilets, and drinking water provision will be a priority. The Mumbai civic body is also contributing by installing extra temporary urinals and toilets at Dadar railway station premises.
This comprehensive approach by the Central Railway and associated bodies reflects their commitment to ensuring a safe and efficient travel experience for those gathering to honor the memory of Dr. B R Ambedkar on this significant day.
