NEW DELHI (India CSR): Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is expanding its road safety Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative in Uttar Pradesh by automating 12 more driving test tracks. This step aims to improve the transparency and efficiency of the driving license issuance process, contributing to safer roads across the state.
Collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Government
In December 2023, Maruti Suzuki signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department. The partnership had previously automated five test tracks in Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. Due to the success of these tracks, 12 more locations are being added, including Aligarh, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Jhansi, Meerut, Moradabad, and others.
Dayashankar Singh, Minister of State for Transport, Uttar Pradesh, stated, “Automation makes the issuance of driving licenses more scientific, transparent, and efficient. This will help in reducing accidents by ensuring only qualified drivers are on the road.”
Technology-Driven Licensing Process
The automated tracks use high-definition cameras and an integrated IT system to ensure a 100% computerized and transparent testing process. Applicants for driving licenses will be evaluated based on rigorous, technology-driven tests in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR). These automated systems generate test results without human intervention.
Rahul Bharti, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki, added, “The automation of driving license testing will usher in a positive transformation. It ensures only capable candidates receive licenses, which will go a long way in reducing road accidents.”
Commitment to Road Safety
Maruti Suzuki has been focusing on the five pillars of road safety—Engineering, Education, Evaluation, Enforcement, and Emergency care. This initiative strengthens the “evaluation” process by ensuring a standardized, unbiased test for drivers.
With 12 additional tracks set for automation, Maruti Suzuki and the Uttar Pradesh government are committed to making the roads safer and enhancing the licensing process for drivers across the state.
