SINGRAULI: Mahan Aluminum, Aditya Birla Group distributed solar lamps to 100 tribal families within 14 villages near Bargawan under Singrauli District where production facilities are located. The solar lamp distribution intent to promote Solar energy and build awarness among the rural population on its beniftis and cost effectiveness.
At a function, Chief Guest Superdentet of Police – Rudolph Alvares; Ratan Somani, Unit Head Mahan, & Head Human Resources – Bishwanath Mukherjee provided solar lamps to the villagers.
Mukhejee said that promotion of solar energy is very important as electricity is not available abundantly to the people in rural and remote areas to speed up their economic growht for poverty alliviation and sustainable development. In India 70% people lives in rural and remote areas and need electrictiy. This endevour of Mahan is just a small step in cheap energy promotion.
Somani said that Mahan Aluminium through its CSR activities is already striving to provide alternative sources of energy to rural masses. Apart from solar light distribution, it is into construction of Bio Gas Plants in the vicinity.
“In our area we have taken 2 Cubic meter drum size for three beneficiaries those have cattle within the range of 5-8 cattle. Total amount of Rs 10500- as a subsidy granted to the beneficiaries via MP State Agro Industries Development Corporation Limited and supported by us in organizing, conducting and construction of plant. This system helps feeding a family size of 8-10 persons without dependacne of other fuel like wood, kerosine, etc.” he said.
These lamps shall provide 24 hours supply of light, after only 4 hours of charging through exposure to sunshine. Additionally a mobile charging point is also available in the unit.
