Lupin Limited Spends Rs 112.5 Cr. on CSR in last 5 years

Company has spent around Rs. 38 crore on CSR during FY 2018-19 which is highest ever in last five years.

NEW DELHI: Lupin Limited, the global pharmaceutical company, as collectively spent Rs. 112.5 Crore in various corporate social responsibility projects and activities during the last five years, company informed in its annual report. Company has spent around Rs. 38 crore on CSR during the year which is highest ever in last five years.

Pursuant to the provisions of Section 135 of the Act read with Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy) Rules, 2014, during the year, company, ought to have spent Rs 65.67 Cr on CSR activities. The actual spend was Rs 37.95 Cr (1.16% of the average net profit for the last 3 years), which was substantially higher than Rs. 21.68 Cr spent in the previous year, Company’s Annual report 2018-19 informed.

No amount was spent during the year towards construction/acquisition of any asset relating to CSR expenditure, report said.

The Company aims to continuously increase its CSR spend and is looking out for new areas/activities, particularly deeper sustainable projects to accelerate the spend.

The average net profit of the Company for the last three financial years calculated in accordance with the provisions of Section 198 of the Companies Act, 2013 was Rs 3283.33 Cr, accordingly prescribed CSR Expenditure (two percent of the amount) stood Rs 65.76 Cr.

As per the report, Company unable to spent 42 percent of the prescribed budgeted amounts, earmarked under the CSR in the FY 2018-19. Tthe total prescribed CSR budget allocated for the year was Rs 65.67Crore against, it has spent Rs 37.95 Crore. Unspent CSR amount is Rs 27.72 Crore, which is 42 percent of the total budget.

Company informed that, Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation (LHWRF), which manage CSR fund, impacted the lives of more than 2.5 million people residing in more than 4171 villages located in 61 blocks of 21 districts so far.

CSR amount was spent on various community development projects viz. Women empowerment, Agricultural development, Community health management, Natural resource management, economic advancement through Education and training, Animal husbandry, Promotion of rural industries, Infrastructure development, and Learn and earn activities for the needy, company said.

It said that the most of the CSR initiatives undertaken by the Company are not imposed from the top but are designed with people’s participation right from the village level.

The Company has been unable to execute its plan of setting-up a state-of the-art JCI and NABH accredited hospital in Mumbai as it could not identify a suitable plot.
