New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) initiated Adult Literacy Programme (ALP) which uses internally developed computer-based software to enable non-literate adult learners to read, write and do arithmetic, at the end of skill development course.
In FY 2019, the programme was implemented across 18 states in India and 3, 65,411 adults were made literate, a 110% growth in the number of beneficiaries over prior year.
The software is available in 9 Indian and 3 foreign languages and takes approximately 50 to 55 learning hours to complete.
The company spent Rs 283 crore through implementing agency on promoting education of children, women, elderly, differently abled, including special education and employment, enhancing vocation skills and employability.
The company also started livelihood enhancement projects and measures for reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward groups.
In FY 2019, ALP won awards for contribution to community and for being responsible company.
