The CSR program aimed at developing scientific acumen and love for science in underprivileged students

INDIACSR News Network

PUNE: As the nation celebrates Teachers’ Day to appreciate the contribution of its teaching fraternity, KPIT Cummins (BSE: 532400; NSE: KPIT), a leading product engineering and IT consulting partner to automotive & transportation, manufacturing and energy & utilities corporations, today kick-started an enhanced 2013 program of its flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) program Chhote Scientists. Aimed at reaching over 1,600 students by the end of the academic year, this initiative endeavors to develop scientific acumen and love of science in students and encourage them to embrace real application of scientific principles.

Commenting on the success achieved last year by the program, Pankaj Sathe, Chief People & Operations Officer, KPIT Cummins said, “A scientific and inquisitive mindset is critical in accelerating cognitive growth and logical reasoning in children. However, a lack of emphasis on science and our rigid education curricula are draining out creativity and rational thinking in today’s youth. The nation requires astute young minds with scientific acumen and ‘Chhote Scientists’ is helping to bridge this gap and create a positive social impact. We are planning to reach out to a larger section of beneficiaries by targeting over 1,600 students in Pune as well as replicating the program at our centers across India and the USA.”

Highlights of the program:

KPIT to reach 1600 students in five months with a team of over 800 volunteers from the company

Over 120 programs on topics such as pressure, motion, magnetism, electricity and energy, to be conducted for students of Standard 8th and 9th across 20 schools in Maval and Mulshi Talukas

Collaboration with the prestigious Jnana Prabodhini institution in Pune to source and develop innovative science learning kits from easily available material
