IPL 2024 Delhi Capitals Players List: Delhi Capitals, the runners-up of the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), have announced their squad for the upcoming season of the cash-rich tournament. The franchise, which is co-owned by GMR Sports Pvt. Ltd and JSW Sports Pvt Ltd, has retained 15 players and bought 10 new ones in the IPL 2024 auction held on December 19, 2023.

The team, which is coached by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, has retained their skipper Rishabh Pant, who was the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2023 with 684 runs in 16 matches. The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman will be joined by other retained batters such as Prithvi Shaw, Yash Dhull, and Vicky Ostwal.

The franchise has also retained some of their key bowlers, such as Anrich Nortje, who was the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2023 with 24 scalps in 14 games, Kuldeep Yadav, who was the most economical spinner in the tournament with an economy rate of 6.12, and Khaleel Ahmed, who was the third-highest wicket-taker among pacers with 18 wickets in 12 matches.

The all-rounders’ department has also been strengthened by retaining Axar Patel, Lalit Yadav, and Mitchell Marsh, who was the most valuable player in IPL 2023 with 312 runs and 14 wickets in 15 games.

IPL 2024 Delhi Capitals (DC) Team History

The Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) have been a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception in 2008. The team, based in Delhi, India, has had a mixed bag of performances throughout the years, with moments of brilliance interspersed with periods of inconsistency.

Early Struggles (2008-2012)

Despite reaching the semifinals in the inaugural season of the IPL, the Delhi Daredevils struggled to find consistency in the following years. They often finished in the bottom half of the points table, failing to qualify for the playoffs in several seasons. This period was marked by frequent changes in leadership and a lack of a defined playing style.

Signs of Improvement (2013-2018)

The arrival of Kevin Pietersen in 2013 brought a spark to the batting department, while young talents like Shreyas Iyer and Kagiso Rabada emerged as key players. The team reached the playoffs twice during this period, showcasing glimpses of their potential.

Rebranding and a Maiden Final Appearance (2019-2020)

In 2019, the franchise underwent a rebranding, changing its name to Delhi Capitals. This period also saw the emergence of Rishabh Pant as a world-class talent. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the Capitals reached their maiden IPL final in 2020, eventually losing to the Mumbai Indians.

Recent Performance (2021-2023)

Despite their impressive run in 2020, the Delhi Capitals haven’t been able to replicate the same level of consistency in the last few seasons. Injuries to key players and inconsistencies in the batting order have hampered their progress. However, they still possess a strong squad and are always considered a contender for the title.
