MUMBAI (India CSR): InterGlobe Foundation, the philanthropic arm of InterGlobe Enterprises, together with IndiGoReach, the CSR arm of IndiGo, partnered with Sahapedia to host an enriching “My City My Heritage” walk in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad). The event, titled “Monks to Mausoleums: Rich History of a Timeless City”, brought to life the city’s deep historical and cultural legacy through its stunning architectural landmarks.
The ‘My City My Heritage’ campaign is a sustained effort to promote awareness of India’s vast cultural and historical heritage. By encouraging dialogue and forging meaningful collaborations, it seeks to safeguard and celebrate both the tangible and intangible heritage of Indian cities. The initiative empowers local communities to reconnect with their roots and take pride in the history that defines their identity. Previous walks have been successfully held in cities such as Prayagraj, Bhubaneswar, Shillong, Nashik, Hyderabad, Kozhikode, and, most recently, Lucknow.
The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar walk commenced at the ancient Aurangabad Caves, dating back 2,000 years and famed for their intricate carvings. Participants explored the stories carved into the stone, gaining insight into the city’s rich cultural fabric. The journey proceeded to the iconic Bibi-ka-Maqbara, often dubbed the “Taj of the Deccan,” where attendees marveled at its Mughal architectural splendor and learned about its historical significance. Guided by Dr. Pushkar Sohoni, the event saw participation from local residents, government officials, and senior representatives from InterGlobe Foundation and IndiGo.

Rohini Bhatia, Chairperson of InterGlobe Foundation, remarked, “At InterGlobe Foundation, we are committed to recognising and celebrating the rich cultural heritage that exists beyond the well-known landmarks. Our ‘My City My Heritage’ walk in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar aimed to shine a spotlight on the city’s unique history and ignite a sense of pride and ownership among its residents. By fostering community engagement and highlighting the city’s unique marvels, we aim to cultivate a deeper appreciation for its cultural heritage and promote tourism that benefits the local economy.”
Pieter Elbers, Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo, added, “Walking today through the lanes of historic landmarks of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the value of protecting our cultural heritage resonated strongly with us. Through ‘My City My Heritage’ campaign, we’re dedicated to raising awareness about the significance of preserving and promoting India’s rich cultural diversity. Through our extensive network, we offer our customers to experience India’s vibrant history and culture, truly embodying the spirit of ‘India by IndiGo’. We’re proud to be part of this journey and encourage everyone to join us in preserving our heritage for generations to come.”

InterGlobe Foundation and IndiGoReach have spearheaded numerous initiatives to advance heritage conservation across India. InterGlobe Foundation’s notable projects include the restoration and cultural revival of Abdur Rahim Khan-I-Khanan’s mausoleum in Delhi, cultural mapping and documentation of ten cities, restoration of the ‘Indra Kund’ stepwell in Delwara, tile restoration at Qutb Shah’s Mausoleum, and Heritage Fellowships.
