Huntsman Textile Effects Baroda Recognized for Best Education Project with India CSR Award

VADODARA: Huntsman Textile Effects Baroda, part of the Huntsman International (India) Pvt. Ltd., a leading specialty chemicals manufacturer and a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals was conferred with the Best CSR Project in Education by Annual India CSR Community Initiative Awards (India CSR Awards) 2014 on Monday, 6 April, 2015 at PHD House, New Delhi.

The award was in recognition of Huntsman’s CSR initiative – Anandi for its exemplary contribution to the society in education. The award was received by Sanjay Soor, Site Manager and Sneha Roy, Head, Corporate Social Responsibility on behalf of Huntsman Textile Effects. Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General (DG) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs and Rusen Kumar, Managing Editor of IndiaCSR and CSR & COMPETITIVENESS conferred the awards to Huntsman.

The case study – Anandi – is featured in the Special Edition of CSR & COMPETITIVENESS Magazine, which was released at the event. Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, Director General (DG) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), Ministry of Corporate Affairs graced the awards ceremony with his insightful keynote as chief guest.

Speaking on the recognition, Sanjay Soor, Site Manager, Huntsman Baroda said, “Our dedication and commitment to giving back to the society meaningfully has now been strengthened further, thanks to the IndiaCSR Award which has recognized our work and our sincere efforts. We are extremely honoredthat we are placed among industry stalwarts and demonstrated our role in raising the benchmark for tangible development improvements in local communities.I would also like to thank our team who has worked relentlessly to build a valuable society”.

Sneha Roy, Head of Huntsman’s CSR initiative– Anandi, added, “Education is an important tool – a tool which can lift communities out of poverty, illnesses and several other socially pertinent issues. In 2011, when we did a needs-assessment to understand the area of focus for CSR, we realized that education as a tool needed to be sharpened – especially for children and adolescents. Through Anandi, we want to go beyond CSR and lay the foundation for best practices and models in education that can be replicated nationally. This award has motivated us greatly to work towards the cause and I would like to thank India CSR and our team who have been a huge support in tirelessly bringing Anandi to where it is today”.

Anandi- Huntsman’s CSR initiative

The CSR team of Huntsman Vadodra, is making a difference in the lives of local children through its Project Anandi. The anandi focuses primarily on two main thrusts-namely on education and reproductive & child care. It supports the Sarva siksha abhiyan programe of government. The Huntsman CSR team works with local schools and anganwadis it regularly organizes summer camps,teachers training workshops and providing free of cost note books and school bags. It is also providing science lab facilities, value education and computer education with essential carrier guidance. It was observed that Anganwadis are not opening on time, but with Anandi 90% anganwadis are opening on time. A number of anganwadis were transformed into clean and vibrant child friendly centres.It was also observed that there is lack of training for anganwadi workers. 14 workshops undertaken till date periodically with anganwadi members.

The awards acknowledge the noble contributions in the CSR domain that are raising benchmarks by bringing radical and transformative change in the development arena through innovation and excellence.

The India CSR Awards, in 21 categories, were opened to all organizations registered in India that engage in social responsibility. The Awards was opened for nomination by all companies, corporate funded foundations and partnerships operating in India.

The vision of the initiative is to identify and recognize the corporate best practices of ongoing Corporate Responsibility initiatives in various domains in the country and mission is to inspire, encourage, and facilitate corporate social responsibility awareness and practices among corporate India. The aim of the Awards is to recognize the best CSR and innovative projects, and translating best practices into concrete action on the ground. The awards encourage the organizations on social projects or programmes to increase the recogniznition of CSR principles in their operations.

This exciting and need based initiative focuses on successful partnerships between business and society, with particular emphasis on collaborative projects that tackle contemporary social issues through innovations and action oriented interventions.
