Looking to buy bulk pharmaceutical intermediates for your product? This article explains the basics of selecting a supplier and also states a reliable source of such compounds.

What are Pharmaceutical Intermediates?

They are “intermediate” compounds meaning that they are converted into other compounds and are used during the bulk production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (also expressed as API). These chemicals produced in the intermediate stages of API synthesis are commonly commercialized and sold as standalone products and are important in the research and development of novel pharmaceutical drugs. Common examples are amino acids, acids, esters, alcohols, phenols, aldehydes, ketones, halogenated compounds, and several organometallic compounds.

So in essence, pharmaceutical intermediates are chemical raw materials employed throughout the pharmaceutical manufacturing process and can be manufactured in conventional chemical facilities without a drug manufacturing license. Some stages in the synthesis of APIs are themselves APIs and are termed advanced intermediates in such cases.

Buying Bulk Pharmaceutical Intermediates& Related Sensitivity:

Selecting a suitable supplier for pharmaceutical Intermediates and using them in drugs is an extremely sensitive process. This is due to the critical nature of these compounds used in the commercial manufacturing process of commonly available drugs. The selection of suppliers should be done with strict and high-quality checks and compliances in place.

Manufacturing Practices or GMP. The suppliers of intermediates should also have certifications and documentation proving regular updated quality control processes, and certifications. Such suppliers ensure that the intermediates supplied to the pharmaceutical companies comply with the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and quality.

One such platform for manufacturing and trading suppliers of bulk pharmaceutical intermediatesis ECHEMI Global which has earned a strong reputation in the industry due to its compliance with safe and reliable business practices. The platform features more than 20,000+ selected chemical manufacturers and traders serving different industrial sectors. Moreover, the firms can contact directly with the suppliers and request quotations, samples and relevant data. ECHEMI’s catalog includes analgesics, heterocyclic compounds, anesthetics, anxiolytics, Oled Material Intermediate, and more.

Supplier Evaluation Criteria for Pharma Intermediates

Selecting a supplier that does not comply with the quality and safety standards can be extremely dangerous both for the end consumers and the form dealing in pharmaceutical products. To avoid such situations, the evaluation criteria should include strict quality assurance processes and certifications, common regulatory compliances (e.g. Food and Drug Administration or FDA) reliability of committed supply and lead times, and technical capabilities of manufacturing such intermediates.

Moreover, the Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Proposal (RFP) generated from the pharmaceutical company should also include requests to disclose information like quality systems used in the production of intermediates and a complete list of regulatory compliance along with technical capabilities that directly affect the end product.

Since the intermediates are very sensitive to the pharmaceutical business, it is recommended to always check the track record of their suppliers. Firms importing them should enquire and research the previous clients or industry partners of suppliers dealing in bulk pharmaceutical intermediates to validate their track record and customer satisfaction in the industry.

Even after a successful partnership of a pharmaceutical firm with a suitable intermediate supplier, the practice of setting up appropriate KPIs for such imports should be established. Moreover, the firms should conduct periodic evaluations so that they can assess supplier performance and address any issues in any future bulk orders of intermediates to avoid any quality problems in the final pharma products.

Wrapping Up:

APIs are created during the manufacturing process of pharmaceutical products. It is not a drug itself but an intermediate form of a drug and is necessary for the effective creation of the final product. APIs can be safely utilized in the human body for the treatment and diagnosis of certain diseases following extensive pharmaceutical research but intermediates are not necessarily safe for use as they are not an accurate formulation of a final drug.

Before buying bulk pharmaceutical intermediates, it is recommended to always look for a reliable supplier as it will directly affect the quality of the end product. The market is flooded with countless options to import such chemicals but ECHEMI Global stands out as a reliable and safe platform for bulk buying intermediates suitable for pharmaceutical companies.
