RAIPUR: GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, a CSR arm of GMR Chhattisgarh Energy Ltd. (GCEL), has conducted Annaprasan & health baby competition as part of the summer camp held at village Chicholi and Raikheda, near Raipur in Chhattisgarh during last week of May 2016.
Annaprashan is a Sanskrit term, which literally means “grain initiation”. It’s commonly known as baby’s first feeding or first rice-eating ceremony.
Annaprashan marks the beginning of solid food in children’s lives after 6 – 8 Month of age. One of the important reasons for malnutrition in children is improper feeding behaviour at household level.
To aware the mother and community, GMRVF celebrated ‘Annaprashan’ program with mother and children to mark the beginning of providing solid food to children. The Program was celebrated in Chicholi Village Nutrition Center on 26th of May 2016.
A total of 25 mothers along with their children participated in program. The program started with orientation to mother about importance of feeding children and how this can increase Nutrition Level of Children. All 25 children were given ‘KHHER’ Milk rice to children in bowl with spoon.
The purpose of giving separate bowl to each children is to remind mothers to give food to children. To raise awareness among mothers for keeping children healthy, a Healthy baby contest was also organized based on parameters – children’s weight, height, and cleanliness. Two children were rewarded after healthy baby contest by GCEL.
Mothers present were oriented how to keep children healthy by giving proper feeding to them.
A total of eight female colleagues from GCEL with full enthusiasm helped in creating awareness among large number of population. They include, Manish Srivastava, Dhanalakshmi KNV, Anusha G, Rupavathi, Asha Rani Nadikatla, Lakshmi Kumari, Shachi Chaturvedi. They talked with Mothers individually and provided suggestions to keep baby healthy at household Level.
Village Sarpanch Mrs. Nira Raj Thakur thanked GCEL for taking such initiatives and spreading awareness among mothers and children for improvement of their health. The team members also visited Raikheda Village Development center to see on-going summer camp for girls between 15-21 years of age. These girls are learning to make Greeting cards, Jute bag, and Craft work.
Meanwhile the foundation with support of GCEL, Inaugurated Children special summer camp In Raikheda and Chicholi Village on 19-21 May 2016. In the camp children were suggested to take time off from the regular chore of going to school and getting down to the curriculum. The children in the age group of 3-8 Years participated in the camp and gained different skills which helped them and their surroundings. Mainly a fun way of learning for the children were Drawing and Paintings, Quiz Competitions, games on computers, recognition of numbers by beginners, Playing with words, Puzzles, Making of greeting cards, various games like Cricket and football for small children were organized. All the methods are adopted to improve the learning level over the period of one month of the summer holidays.
More than 60 Children up to age group of 8 years were enrolled and participated in summer camps in two villages. In the inauguration Function of summer camp GCEL vertical heads Mr. Sanjeev Tiwari, Mr. Sreekanth P Pai, Shashank Sharma, Mr. Harinath KV, Mr. Raghuvendra Taxak, Mr. Kishore Rout, Mr. Deepak Gupta , Mr. Raj Kumar singh participated.
The GCEL talked to the children and tried to understand their needs in terms of education support and showed their willingness to help the children. They also appreciated the enthusiasm shown by children by participating in camp.
