MASAR (Vadodara): On the occasion of the 69th Independence Day of India, Finolex Industries Ltd. along with their CSR partner Mukul Madhav Foundation, constructed and donated a toilet block to M M Samplawalla School at Masar road, Padra taluka, Vadodara district, Gujarat. The newly constructed toilet block has 16 toilets for the students and one for the teachers and has been equipped with modern facilities and amenities. It is an effort by the company to create a healthy environment in the school, reduce school drop outs especially by the girl child and to support a clean and hygienic India

M M Samplawalla School has been operational since 59 years, but lacked a most essential facility i.e. an equipped and clean toilet facility. Even the teachers and faculty had to go home in between school hours if they needed to use the restroom.

Speaking on this occasion, Ritu Chhabria, Managing Trustee, Mukul Madhav Foundation “It is the right of every child to not just be educated but have a healthy childhood. A clean toilet facility is definitely a mandate in any school and we are happy to be able to provide this to the children at Samplawalla School. We hope that with this new available facility, more children will join school and we will have less girl students dropping out.” She further added, “80 percent of the diseases in India are water borne or through water contamination, hence it is imperative to adopt sanitation programs to keep these diseases in check.”

As Finolex Industries started its plant in this village six years back, they have been constantly involved in helping the communities in and around the plant. Some of the projects done by the company so far in this region are:

  • Improving education quality of English language in two schools by appointing and sponsoring two English speaking teachers since 2014
  • Upgrading schools by donating computers and other infrastructure
  • Facilitated MA card (Mukhyamantri Amrutum) camp with Government officials to help 200 families receive this card, enabling them to avail benefits of medical insurance under the scheme, up to Rs. 2,00,000/- per family
  • Planted saplings to promote green environment
  • Is in the process of setting up skill development classes for women of the village, in Computer and tailoring. Both these courses will be certified by professionals.

“These initiatives would not have been possible without the constant support of the Gram Panchayat of these villages and Principals of the schools, who welcomed our good intentions with open arms. We are truly thankful to them and hope to have their continued support for all our future projects.” said Saurabh Dhanorkar, Managing Director, Finolex Industries Ltd.
