Did you know? The Earth’s average temperature has risen by approximately 1.2 degrees Celsius since the late 19th century, with accelerating warming trends in recent decades. Over the last century, global sea levels have risen by about 8 inches (20 cm), and the rate of increase is accelerating. The frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, and wildfires, have surged. In 2020 alone, there were over 100 major climate-related disasters, causing significant economic and human losses.
In this critical scenario, digital education through social media, official govt./ news portals play a crucial role in raising awareness about the climate crisis and environmental concerns. But these are mostly reactive measures, there is need to enable proactive measures which is only possible through a deep understanding of climate change & climate action at the school level as well as communities & youth.
India’s Commitment to Climate Awareness and Action
National Education Policy 2020 highlights the significance of incorporating environmental education into school curriculum at all levels.
“To address climate change in India, the MoE strongly believes in the role of education in resolving the impacts of climate change. UNESCO State of the Education Report 2023 for India highlights the important role of education in addressing climate change. It is evident from the research that India has already taken some significant steps in this direction, and in doing so, is helping to promote sustainable and long-term solutions to this global challenge”, said Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education
Digital Education to empower students for making sustainable choices
- Digital education becomes a catalyst for change by sensitizing students to the consequences of their everyday actions, empowering them to make informed choices that contribute to environmental sustainability.
- Digital education not only teaches students about climate change and taking care of the environment but also gives them an understanding of taking action for it. It contributes to reducing the carbon footprint by minimizing the use of physical resources associated with traditional learning methods.
By leveraging dynamic and interactive content on climate change and action, iDream Education through its one stop learning platform iPrep is empowering students and teachers to develop a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness, fostering a collective commitment to address the challenges posed by climate change.
iPrep’s Climate Action Course to Foster Environmental Consciousness in K-12 Students
Curated in alignment with NEP’s Vision for Environmental Education, iPrep Climate Action course is structured into five key aspects.

Here, the emphasis is on familiarizing students with human behaviors contributing to deteriorating climatic conditions, such as food habits, waste disposal and more. iPrep offers animated content to depict these activities enabling students to connect more effectively and take corrective measures.
Safeguards Against Climate Change
In the fourth facet of the course, students receive guidance on correcting their actions by incorporating strategies aimed at mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change. This section exposes students to the measurement of carbon footprints, methods for reducing them, effective waste management practices, and other relevant topics through the use of examples and inspirational stories. The content is presented in a diverse manner to assist learners in cultivating a critical understanding of actions that have the potential to create a tangible positive impact.
Become a Climate Leader
In the fifth facet of course, students receive guidance to emerge as climate leaders, making substantial contributions aligned with their passions and areas of interest. This involves a diverse array of concise videos covering topics such as industries, innovation, infrastructure, development goals, life on land, and more. The content is presented through inspirational narratives of individuals already engaged in or striving for climate preservation, as well as practical steps to guide students in taking daily actions that promote sustainability and address climate concerns.
Climate Action course on iPrep is curated in alignment with NEP’s Vision for Environmental Education, said Pawan Kumar, the Assistant Director of Growth and Impact.
