Significant Investments and Widespread Impact through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

MUMBAI, India (India CSR): Vedanta Limited, a global natural resources company, has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable development by significantly investing in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives during the fiscal year 2024. The company made an impressive CSR spend of Rs. 438 crore during the year FY 2023-24. This effort benefited 17.40 million individuals. Vedanta’s initiatives span various sectors, including healthcare, education, environment, and women empowerment.

This commitment builds on Vedanta’s consistent effort to drive positive social impact, having spent over Rs. 1900 crore on CSR activities since 2020.

On April 1, 2014, India became the first country to legally mandate corporate social responsibility (CSR). Section 135 of India’s Companies Act make it mandatory for companies having turnover of Rs. 1,000 crore or more, or Net-Worth of Rs. 500 crore or more or a net proit of Rs. 5 Crore or more to spend two percent of their average net profit for the past three financial years on CSR. CORPORATE means a Company registered under the law of land, SOCIAL means society, people, plants, animals, basically the environment we live in and RESPONSIBILITY y means obligations or duties.

Arun Misra, Executive Director of Vedanta Limited, presented the company’s 4QFY24 investor presentation, highlighting the significance of these CSR initiatives. He emphasized Vedanta’s vision to create shared value for all stakeholders, contributing to the sustainable development of the communities where it operates.

Reaching Over 1200 Villages

Through these diverse and impactful programs, Vedanta has reached over 1200 villages across India, making a tangible difference in the lives of millions. The company’s commitment to social responsibility goes beyond financial investment, fostering partnerships with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to create lasting and sustainable positive change.

Comprehensive CSR Investment

  • Significant Financial Commitment

Led by Chairman Anil Agarwal, Vedanta Limited’s unaudited CSR expenditure for FY24 stands at Rs. 438 crore. This figure is part of a larger trend of increasing CSR investments over the past five years.   • Healthcare and Sanitation

Healthcare and sanitation have been primary focus areas for Vedanta. The company has launched over 32 initiatives in this sector. These efforts ensure access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation facilities, reducing the spread of diseases and enhancing community health.

  • Community Infrastructure

Building robust community infrastructure is crucial for sustainable development. Vedanta’s CSR activities include the development of essential infrastructure in rural and semi-urban areas. This includes the construction of schools, health centers, and community halls, which serve as vital resources for local populations.

  • Children’s Well-being and Education

Education is a cornerstone of Vedanta’s CSR strategy. The company has implemented over 31 initiatives aimed at improving children’s well-being and education. These programs focus on enhancing educational infrastructure, providing learning materials, and supporting school enrollment and retention.

Nand Ghar: Flagship Initiatives – Transforming Early Childhood Development

This ambitious project aims to transform early childhood development in India.

  • Transforming Rural India

One of Vedanta’s flagship CSR initiatives is the ‘Nand Ghar’ program. the program provides children with a nurturing environment focused on their health, nutrition, education, and overall well-being. These modernized anganwadis serve as centers for child development and women empowerment. Over 6000 Nand Ghars have been set up across India, providing crucial services to rural communities.

Nand Ghars offer a range of services, including early childhood education, nutrition, healthcare, and skills training for women. These centers are instrumental in addressing the needs of rural populations and promoting holistic development.
