upGrad, Asia’s higher edtech major, and the not-for-profit focused on rural India – Swades Foundation have announced 100 scholarships in name of each Olympic medal winner – Neeraj Chopra, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Mirabai Chanu, PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain, Bajarang Punia & players of the medal-winning Indian Hockey Team.

The 100 scholarships will be broken into Gold, Silver & Bronze tiers, and will be given basis the meritocracy of the applying candidates, focused towards empowering the ambitious youth and working professionals of Bharat, at the grassroots across the country who dares to dream big.

“upGrad and Swades are pleased to announce 100 scholarships per Olympic medal winner – for upgrading our working prof & for our ambitious youth in rural India -in the name of each of our Olympic medal winners,” said Ronnie Screwvala, Chairperson & Co-founder – upGrad and Co – Founder – Swades Foundation, on Sunday announcing the launch of the scholarship fund on Twitter.

It is undisputed that the progress of semi-urban, rurban, and rural India will be the needle-mover towards shaping India’s $5 trillion dream. upGrad & Swades strives to help the nation move closer to its mission by creating opportunities for economic and social development at the grassroots.

Being an integrated Higher Edtech company, upGrad is best placed to drive outcome-focused education that can uplift not only the learners, but their families harnessing the real potential of education.

Spanning all aspects of LifeLongLearning upGrad has over 100 course offerings right from under-grads to test prep to being the first port of call for colleges/universities to go digital through technology & SaaS enablement, to offering degrees in the most sought-after fields for learners to build their careers of tomorrow.

And, then for those in the workforce already, upGrad has right from short-term high impact courses to brand new initiatives like the Study Abroad program, to deep learning certifications, diplomas, and degree courses for working professionals.

On the other hand, staying committed to it’s goal of empowering 1 million rural Indians every 5 years through holistic development and empowering them to take charge of their own lives, Zarina & Ronnie Screwvalas’ Swades Foundation has mobilized Rs. 15 Cr for COVID Aid.

This fund caters to, not just the immediate relief, but also the recovery of those economically impacted by the pandemic in the rural areas. Swades is now actively working at the forefront to provide relief and rehabilitation support to the rural communities severely impacted by the recent floods and landslides at Raigad, Maharashtra. So far they have provided relief to over 3000 families across 50 villages affected by the floods.
