In a bid to give their students a chance to serve the community, the Social Welfare cell of Thakur Polytechnic has donated generous portions of rice, wheat and dals to tribal villages in Jawahar, Palghar, Maharashtra.
Thakur Polytechnic (TPoly) has collected these whole grains from students and staff and distributed them to tribal girls in Jawahar, working alongside the Bal Sanjivan Chhavani program run by the Shree Vithumauli Charitable Trust.
This Trust is working against child malnutrition in tribal areas. They also provide job counselling to tribal youth and train tribal girls as nurses. Currently active in four tehsils, the NGO also organises medical camps and facilities in these tribal areas.
Thakur Polytechnic (TPoly) has made internships with NGOs a regular part of their curriculum. They believe it gives their students a chance to both serve the community and learn from it.
Dr S.M. Ganechari, Principal of Thakur Polytechnic, said, “With these efforts, we want to teach a sense of social responsibility to our students. Our social welfare cell ensures that they get to do this proactively, by organising and completing such drives on their own.”
This move is not the first time that TPoly has extended a helping hand to the needy through this NGO. Their Bal Sanjivan Chhavani program takes care of infants and young children. The students had helped this Trust earlier by collecting and donating necessities like eatables, books and clothes.
