MUMBAI (India CSR): Tata Chemicals Society for Rural Development (TCSRD) has executed an ambitious tree plantation drive called ‘My Greening Hour’. In an impressive feat, over 70,000 trees were planted in over 100 locations across India within just one hour. The aim of the nationwide event was to raise awareness about the crucial role trees play in our survival, promote inclusive community service, and enhance carbon absorption capacity.
Geographical Outreach and Participation
The initiative received widespread support across various states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Gujarat. The event, held between 4-5 pm on July 12, 2023, saw enthusiastic participation from over 10,000 individuals, including employees from Tata Chemicals Limited and Rallis India Limited, along with local communities and authorities. All were united in the common goal of greening the planet.
This monumental feat sets the stage for similar future activities by Tata Chemicals in their ongoing efforts towards environmental conservation and sustainability.
Sustainability and Community at the Forefront
N. Kamath, Chief Manufacturing Officer and Location Head, Tata Chemicals Limited, Mithapur, emphasized the company’s unwavering focus on sustainability and community service. “‘My Greening Hour’ is a unique effort to ensure sustainable development,” he said. Kamath also highlighted how the initiative aims to restore the environment and raise awareness about environmental preservation among local communities. Over 40,000 trees were planted in Okhamandal, Gujarat alone, reflecting the initiative’s impressive scale.
Addressing Climate Change and Biodiversity
Alok Chandra, Chief-Health, Safety, Environment & CSR, Tata Chemicals Limited, elaborated on the ‘My Greening Hour’ initiative. He explained the importance of trees in mitigating climate change, enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and providing economic and social benefits. The rapid changes around us necessitate urgent action towards nature conservation and green cover expansion, he added. The planting of over 70,000 trees provided a sense of accomplishment and responsibility towards maintaining these trees for a greener and healthier future.
