As part of its wide-ranging, empathetic response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Mahindra Group today donated five ambulances to the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The ambulances are fitted with oxygen cylinders with the aim to support hospitals in Shimla, Solan, Mandi, Kinnaur and Kangra districts. The handover ceremony was headed by Hon’ble CM of Himachal Pradesh,Jai Ram Thakur.
In continuation of its support of the Government of Himachal Pradesh, the Mahindra Group is also setting up a 500LPM Oxygen Plant at the Government Civil Hospital in Dehra. The Group distributed protective equipment (4000 pairs of gloves) to support frontline sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation of Shimla during the second wave of COVID-19. In addition, Club Mahindra Naldhera resort was converted into a quarantine centre for exclusive use by the Government of HP in the first wave. It has donated face shields, ration kits, PPE kits and refreshments on 24 check-posts across Shimla and Solan districts.
Reiterating Mahindra’s commitment to help India fight the COVID-19 pandemic, Ruzbeh Irani, President – Group Human Resources and Communications, said: “The pandemic has accentuated the need for healthcare and we have taken proactive, impactful steps to make healthcare available to our associates and beyond. Towards this end, we have partnered with governments to scale up medical infrastructure by providing oxygen plants, oxygen concentrators, ambulances and setting up temporary COVID-19 care centres.”
The Mahindra Group is in the process of donating 86 ambulances across 19 states and has committed substantial funds across the country. The Group’s efforts cover a wide spectrum, including raising funds, sustaining the government’s relief efforts, re-engineering production lines and facilities to manufacture face shields, face masks and aerosol boxes, and providing ICU beds, emergency cab services, quarantine centres, oxygen-on-demand, monetary support and dry rations for the underprivileged.
