Gillette India Ltd. through its flagship CSR program P&G Shiksha, is operating a total of 4 Learning Centers in Bhiwadi focused on building foundational literacy and numeracy skills in children from migrant communities forming a strong base for their future learning and better life outcomes. The company aims to impact 200+ children each year through the learning centers
Today, Gillette India, announced the set-up of two new Learning Centers in Bhiwadi for the education of children from migrant communities. Through the centers, the company aims to build foundational literacy and numeracy skills in children which forms a strong base for their future learning and better life outcomes.
In partnership with NGO IBTADA, Gillette is also creating awareness about education within the community and engaging parents on their child’s education. This intervention is the latest addition to Gillette India Ltd.’s existing flagship CSR program P&G Shiksha which focuses on providing underprivileged children access to holistic education.
Sharing his thoughts on this expansion Balaji Iyengar, Plant Head, Gillette India Ltd. said, “Through our flagship CSR program P&G Shiksha, we have committed to improve access to education for underprivileged children in India. We are taking a small step towards empowering children specifically from migrant communities with education through our learning centers in Bhiwadi. The centers will aim to empower 200+ children each year with essential foundational skills paving the way for their better future.” He further added, “In Rajasthan, through our flagship CSR program P&G Shiksha, we will be impacting more than 3 lakh children through our interventions in girl child education, improving education infrastructure and improving learning outcomes.”
As per reports, around 80% of children from migrant communities do not have access to education in India. These children miss out on the formal education system due to the location of schools at the destination, acceptance, difference in curriculum and linguistic barriers. Their continuity in education is impacted and they are often unable to acquire the required abilities and skills for better life outcomes. The learning centers focus on bridging this gap by providing them with foundational literacy and numeracy skills that can help them continue formal education.
Gillette India Ltd. has been working towards the education of children since 2005 through its flagship CSR program ‘P&G Shiksha’. In Rajasthan, the company has built and refurbished education infrastructure across various districts. In partnership with NGOs, Gillette is empowering marginalized girls at 40 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas with education. The company is also focusing on improving learning outcomes in children through on-ground remedial learning camps, use of innovative adaptive personalized remedial learning software and providing early childhood education across Anganwadis in the state.
