Mumbai: The Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) commemorated its 36th Foundation Day on October 2nd, coinciding with the 154th Gandhi Jayanti. The event showcased BIMTECH’s enduring commitment to instilling the values of social welfare in its students and promoting sustainability. Over three days, from September 30th to October 2nd, the celebration featured captivating performances by renowned theatre groups, paying homage to Mahatma Gandhi and highlighting the institute’s remarkable journey.
Celebration Kicks Off with Captivating Drama Performances
The celebratory festivities commenced with spellbinding performances by the National School of Drama Repertory group, who staged the drama “Maaee Ree Main Kaa Se Kahun,” directed by Shri Ajay Kumar. The Asmita Theatre Group from New Delhi also graced the occasion, presenting “Andha Yug,” directed by Shri Arvind Gaur, to captivated audiences.
Honoring Mahatma Gandhi’s Legacy
On the Foundation Day event, the ceremonial lamp was lit to mark the beginning of a memorable day. Esteemed guests were welcomed, and a touching tribute to Mahatma Gandhi was paid with his favorite bhajan, ‘Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye.’
Anshu Gupta Inspires with Words of Wisdom
Shri. Anshu Gupta, founder of Goonj, served as the Chief Guest and delivered an inspiring address. He shared his personal journey, growing up in a determined family with limited means, and the value of education. Gupta emphasized the importance of sustainable empowerment over mere charity and encouraged collective efforts to build a nation based on honesty and ambition. He reminded the audience that subsidies are opportunities, not entitlements, and urged the widespread availability of education.
BIMTECH’s Director Reflects on the Institute’s Growth
Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director of BIMTECH, welcomed the guests and highlighted the institute’s impressive growth from a small basement in New Delhi to a top-tier business school. He underscored BIMTECH’s commitment to raising awareness about Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in the corporate and academic spheres.
Honoring Gandhi’s Enduring Influence
Dr. Chaturvedi acknowledged Mr. Anshu Gupta as a true disciple of Gandhi and praised Goonj’s efforts in addressing global challenges while upholding Gandhi’s principles. He emphasized the relevance of Gandhi’s values in today’s world and quoted Albert Einstein, who believed that future generations would be inspired by Gandhi’s legacy.
Recognizing Contributions to Education
As part of its tradition of acknowledging significant contributions to education, BIMTECH honored individuals with awards such as the Basant Kumar Birla Distinguished Scholar Award, Best Researcher and Teaching Excellence Award for 2022, and the felicitation of faculty and staff completing 10 years of service.
Unveiling Key Reports
During the celebration, BIMTECH also unveiled the Insurance India Report, featuring articles from prominent industry figures like Shri G.N. Bajpai, ex-Chairman SEBI and LIC, Shri Sakate Khaitan, Senior Partner at Khaitan Legal Associates, and Shri Tapan Singhel, Managing Director and CEO of Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Co. Ltd. The report suggests regulatory reforms for the insurance sector, highlighting BIMTECH’s commitment to insurance education with its PGDM program in Insurance Business Management.
The 36th Foundation Day celebration concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. K. C. Arora, Registrar of BIMTECH, expressing gratitude to all participants and contributors who made the event a memorable and meaningful occasion.
