Ludhiana – The Christian Medical College & Hospital (CMC) is the first institution in north India to establish a dedicated unit for haematology, stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. The institute is a member of ‘National Marrow Donor Programme’ (NMDP) since 2015.
CMC initiates a ‘children’s ward’ for haemato-oncology and bone marrow transplant under their Project ‘Umeed’ in partnership with a nonprofit organisation ‘CanKids, KidsCan’.
The ward has increased the highly specialized treatment capacity by additional 4-5 beds.
Anuj Mathur, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Canara HSBC Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance inaugurated the initiative under the CSR project of the institute.
The department has completed more than 100 successful stem cell transplants and has an active ongoing ‘matched unrelated donor’ (MUD) transplantation and ‘haploidentical stem cell transplantation programme’.
The department excels and specializes in the management of patients with benign haematological disorders of platelets, red and white blood cells like anaemia, ITP, Aplastic anaemia, Haemolytic anaemia, Haemophilia, thrombosis etc.
