NASHIK (India CSR): Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Nashik Municipal Corporation’s 274 MLD Vilholi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and the augmentation of the Mukane water supply scheme today. Built at a cost of Rs 370 crores, the project will provide reliable, safe, and sustainable water supply to over 55 lakh Nashik residents and cater to more than 1 crore visitors expected during the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The project ensures round-the-year water availability for citizens, strengthens resilience during peak tourist seasons, and boosts local employment and tourism-linked businesses. Funded partially through Green Sustainable Bonds worth Rs 200 crores, this initiative highlights Nashik’s leadership in sustainable and self-reliant urban infrastructure.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “This project reflects our commitment to ensuring water security and sustainable growth for Nashik, benefitting citizens and supporting the city’s future development.”
Under the guidance of the Hon’ble CM, the Vilholi WTP and Mukane augmentation scheme mark a significant step toward Nashik’s goal of becoming a model smart and water-secure city. The system, designed for long-term sustainability, is scheduled for full readiness before the 2027 Kumbh Mela, ensuring smooth water access during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.

Manisha Khatri, Commissioner and Administrator, Nashik Municipal Corporation, said, “Our goal is to reduce Non-Revenue Water from 45% to 27%, and eventually to 5%, through upgraded pipelines, improved distribution efficiency, and advanced SCADA automation. These efforts will ensure consistent, high-quality water supply and make Nashik a benchmark city in India’s urban water management.”
