RAIPUR (India CSR): The Central Government is working on a plan to install 400 new BSNL towers to strengthen digital connectivity in the Naxal-affected and remote areas of Chhattisgarh. This was announced by Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, in Raipur.

Dr. Sekhar stated that the installation of these towers will proceed in phases after obtaining necessary approvals from security forces and the forest department. He added, “BSNL is currently providing high-quality 4G services across the country, and with this expansion, we are realizing the mission of bringing digital connectivity to the last village in the nation.”

Satisfaction with Scheme Implementation

Dr. Sekhar chaired a high-level review meeting in Raipur, attended by senior officials from the Rural Development Department, Department of Posts, Department of Telecommunications, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).

During the meeting, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the swift and effective implementation of schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), and Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) by the state government. He noted that these schemes are bringing significant changes to rural infrastructure and housing.

Innovations for Women’s Empowerment

Appreciating the role of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), the Minister highlighted innovative efforts like the ‘Pink Auto’ initiative in Chhattisgarh, which provides women with ownership of pink autos to promote empowerment and self-reliance. He remarked that this initiative could serve as a model for other states. SHGs are being linked with various schemes to provide financial assistance, training, and marketing opportunities, fostering self-employment and economic independence for women.

Dr. Sekhar further stated that development works in Naxal-affected areas are being implemented in “mission mode.” Services are being delivered door-to-door in these regions, with schools undergoing digitization to support students in preparing for competitive exams like JEE and NEET. Special facilities are also being provided for differently-abled students, reflecting a sensitive and inclusive approach.

Government Schemes Reaching the Last Mile

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Sekhar emphasized, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Central Government’s welfare schemes are now reaching the last person in society. Rapid development and transformation are being witnessed even in marginalized, tribal, and remote areas.”

He added that the government’s goal is to strengthen digital, physical, and social infrastructure in an integrated manner to realize the vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ (Together with All, Development for All) on the ground.
