NEW DELHI: Businessworld FICCI CSR Award Ceremony to be held on December 7, 2012 at FICCI, Federation House, New Delhi. The Guests of Honor for the function are Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs (Independent In charge), GoI, Mr. RV Kanoria, President, FICCI and Mrs. Rajsahree Birla, Chairperson FICCI CSR and Community Development Committee.
This year is the 12th anniversary of the Award. In its journey, this unique platform has seen greater interest and keen involvement amongst corporate and industry thought leaders. In its 12th year, the Award has grown manifold in stature and is one of the most prestigious awards in CSR.
FICCI and Businessworld instituted India’s first Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Award in 1999 to encourage corporate participation in inclusive growth. The Businessworld-FICCI Corporate Social Responsibility Award, until last year was known as the Businessworld-FICCI-SEDF Corporate Social Responsibility Award.
It is an annual award that aims at identifying and recognising the efforts of companies in integrating and internalising Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into their core business operations. The award recognises efforts of the companies which engage in CSR in a strategic and systematic manner and integrate it with their overall corporate strategy. Over the years, the Award has not just grown in size but in stature and is presently recognised as one of the most coveted awards in the area of CSR. The initiative has given various companies an opportunity to showcase exemplary initiatives taken up by them.
This year the jury is being chaired by Mr. M Damodaran, Former Chairman, SEBI, comprises of Mr. M. K.Venu, Managing Editor, Financial Express, Dr. V. Mohini Giri, Chairperson of Guild of Service and War Widows Association, Mr. Mark Runacres, Advisor to The Confederation of British Industry, Mr. Sunit Tandon, Director IIMC, Mr. Pritpal Marjara, Managing Director, Population Services International, India
The ‘Businessworld-FICCI Corporate Social Responsibility Award’ has the following three categories:
Category I – CSR Award for Companies with turnover
a. Rs 3001 crore per annum and above
b. Turnover between Rs. 101 crores – Rs. 3000 crores per annum
Category II – CSR Award for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with turnover
Upto Rs. 100 Crores per annum
Category III – Award for Exemplary Innovation promoting CSR
The Award follows an exclusive three-tier assessment process, independent of the organizers – FICCI and Businessworld. Nominations received are thoroughly scrutinized by reputed international accountants and business advisors, Grant Thornton, India. Subsequently, Birla Institute of Management Technology, India, a well known Management School, conducts ‘on-site assessment’ of the CSR work of the shortlisted companies. Finally, an Independent Jury comprising eminent personalities from the relevant spheres makes the final selection of the Award winners. The final selection for the Award is made by an Independent Jury comprising eminent personalities from different spheres.
A number of companies including Mahindra & Mahindra, SAIL, Tata Tea, Infosys, Tata Chemicals, HINDALCO, TISCO, TELCO, Lupin, Gujarat Ambuja Cement have been recognised for their exemplary work in the area of CSR, in the past.
Over the years, the awards have been presented by luminaries like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India, Shri P. Chidambaram, Union Minister for Finance, Shri Yashwant Sinha, Union Minister for Finance, Shri Anand Sharma, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Shri M Veerappa Moily, Minister for Corporate Affairs, Government of India.
