Unpacking the Investment: A Commitment to Social Responsibility

Bosch Limited was mandated to spend approximately Rs 34.8 crores on its CSR activities for the financial year 2024-25, based on its average net profit. The Board of Directors approved a spend of between Rs 34.8 crores and Rs 35.0 crores. While the actual direct spend on projects amounted to Rs 29.92 crores, the total expenditure, including administrative overheads and impact assessment costs, reached Rs 31.92 crores. A shortfall of Rs 2.91 crores from the obligated amount has been diligently transferred to a designated unspent CSR account, earmarked for utilization in the subsequent fiscal year, underscoring the company’s transparent and forward-looking approach to its social commitments. This financial dedication is a cornerstone of Bosch’s strategy, demonstrating its belief that business success is intrinsically linked to societal well-being.

Empowering Youth Through Skill Development: A Gateway to Livelihoods

At the heart of Bosch Limited’s CSR strategy lies a robust focus on skill development, recognized as a critical pathway to employability and economic independence. In FY 2024-25, Bosch’s initiatives positively impacted 31,403 young individuals, with a remarkable 52% of these beneficiaries being women. The programs boasted an impressive average placement rate of 70%, providing a tangible bridge between training and dignified livelihoods.

The flagship “BRIDGE” (Bosch’s Response to India’s Development & Growth through Employability Enhancement) vocational training initiative, now in its eleventh year, has already skilled over 1.1 lakh less-educated youth with industry-relevant employability skills since its inception in 2013. During the reporting year alone, 16,699 youth completed their training, and another 5,941 are currently undergoing training across 400+ active partner centers spread across 24 states and 4 Union Territories. Bosch Limited has also forged strategic partnerships with government departments in Karnataka and Rajasthan to establish 20 new BRIDGE training centers at Government ITIs.

Beyond traditional skilling, Bosch demonstrated a strong commitment to inclusivity by providing specialized training to marginalized groups. This included training 200 youth with disabilities and 95 individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community, ensuring that these often-overlooked segments of society are equipped with marketable skills. Responding to India’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) sector, the company introduced pioneering programs to train 170 women as EV auto drivers and provided specialized training in EV and battery technologies to 41 young individuals, fostering a future-fit workforce for sustainable transportation.

Nurturing a Greener Planet: Environmental Stewardship

Bosch Limited’s dedication to environmental sustainability is evident in its comprehensive programs focused on climate action and resource conservation. The company expanded its environmental initiatives to include large-scale afforestation, tree plantation, and vital water conservation efforts. During the year, Bosch continued rejuvenation work on eight water bodies across multiple locations, including Bengaluru, Bidadi, Chennai, Jaipur, and Nashik.

Afforestation projects were initiated or progressed in five key locations, contributing significantly to biodiversity conservation and carbon footprint reduction. In FY 2024-25, Bosch planted 19,727 new saplings, adding to a cumulative count of over 2.7 lakh trees across various regions. These efforts have already impacted 1.1 lakh individuals and cattle and contributed to conserving an estimated 3 billion liters of water over the years.

Furthermore, the company boosted rainwater harvesting by 31.75%, collecting over 90,141 cubic meters of rainwater, which met 16% of the company’s overall water demand. Specific interventions, such as the rainwater reservoir in Jaipur, averted the withdrawal of over 12,000 kiloliters of freshwater. The Nashik plant saw a groundbreaking AI-based system recalibrating chiller settings every 10 minutes to reduce excess energy consumption. Bosch’s commitment to the circular economy also shone through, with 93% of waste generated being recycled, reused, or recovered.

Enhancing Well-being: Healthcare and Education for All

Recognizing the fundamental importance of health and education, Bosch Limited continued its impactful programs in these crucial areas. The company’s Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) provided essential basic healthcare services to 67,138 residents across 95 villages, prioritizing community wellness at the grassroots level.

Access to clean drinking water was significantly expanded with the installation of two new Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants in Jaipur and one in Bidadi, bringing the total number of Bosch-supported RO plants to 36 since 2008. These plants collectively serve over 30,400 households annually, particularly in regions plagued by high fluoride content in groundwater. Additionally, Bosch extended crucial healthcare support to 45 Multiple Sclerosis patients, ensuring their medical needs were met.

In the education sector, Bosch supported the development of government schools and Anganwadis through essential infrastructure upgrades and learning support, directly benefiting 18,283 children across six locations. The company also provided nutritious meals to 3,400 government school children through its Midday Meal program.

Building Resilient Communities: Rural Development & Inclusivity

Bosch’s commitment to community development deepened with the establishment of its sixth Community Development Center (CDC) in Anekal, Bengaluru. This expanded network now reaches 32,333 individuals across 152 villages in four states, acting as vital hubs for connecting underserved communities with government schemes and livelihood opportunities.

The rural livelihood enhancement program provided skills training to 892 beneficiaries, upskilled 648 ANM/Asha workers, and imparted leadership and life skills to 600 girls, fostering local self-reliance and empowerment.

A Culture of Giving: Employee Volunteerism and Industry Recognition

The spirit of service is deeply ingrained in Bosch Limited’s corporate culture, exemplified by its “Act of Kindness” initiative. In the reporting year, 861 employee volunteers contributed over 10,500 hours through more than 110 activities, directly and indirectly impacting over 60,000 individuals. This collective energy reflects the workforce’s dedication to meaningful social engagement.

Bosch’s impactful CSR efforts garnered national recognition in 2024-25, including the prestigious Golden Peacock CSR Award, the Karma Award, and the Avatar & Seramount Social Excellence Award. The Gangaikondan Plant was also honored with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Award from CII for its impactful work with the Kani Tribe, further cementing Bosch’s reputation as a leader in corporate citizenship.

In conclusion, Bosch Limited’s CSR spending of Rs 31.9 crores in FY 2024-25 is more than just a financial figure; it represents a comprehensive, human-centric approach to building a more equitable, skilled, and sustainable future for India. Through targeted investments in skill development, environmental protection, healthcare, and community empowerment, Bosch continues to demonstrate its unwavering commitment to creating lasting value for all stakeholders, proving that progress truly means uplifting everyone.
