MUMBAI: Biocon Ltd, said that it has appointed Pratima Rao as Mission Director & Head of its CSR arm Biocon Foundation. Earlier Rao was heading the Department of Mathematics & Computer Science, Baldwin Girls High School, Bengaluru for over two decades. She is a renowned educationist and committed to quality education.
Rao is the author of the ‘Challenge Mathematics’ a series on mental mathematics, published by Macmillan India Limited, and has also developed ‘Chinnara Ganitha’ self-help books in mathematics in Kannada, for Biocon Foundation, which have been introduced in over 1400 schools in rural Karnataka.
She has been a proud recipient of the ‘Best Educator’ award initiated by the Rustom Irani Foundation in Bangalore. She has been associated with the Biocon Foundation’s ‘Chinnara Ganitha’ rural education program since its inception in 2006.
On her appointment, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, CMD of Biocon said, “We are extremely happy to have Pratima Rao lead our CSR wing, Biocon Foundation. As a Mission Director, she will be responsible for the overall management of the activities, strategy and operations of Biocon Foundation. We are confident that her collective knowledge, experience and expertise will strengthen our commitment to promote social and economic inclusion of marginalized communities.”
Biocon Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of Biocon, is relentlessly working to empower marginalized communities since 2005. Nearly 4 lakh patients have benefitted from eLAJ clinics since its inception in 2006. Under ‘Chinnara Ganitha’ program it has benefited over 7 lakhs students across 1400 plus schools in Karnataka.
