NEW DELHI (India CSR): Ambuja Cements Limited, a key player in the Indian cement and building materials industry and part of the Adani Group has reported the unfortunate deaths of two workers in the financial year 2023-24.

Ambuja Cements, with a cement capacity of 78.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) spread across 43 cement manufacturing facilities, including 18 integrated plants, has aimed to ensure safe and eco-friendly construction practices.

However, the recent fatalities indicate areas needing attention despite the overall decline in injury rates.

Despite efforts to minimize injuries, the reported fatalities highlight the challenges faced in maintaining a completely safe working environment. The Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) has improved, showing a reduction for both employees and workers, which indicates better safety practices compared to the previous financial year.

Measures for a Safe and Healthy Workplace

Ambuja Cements has implemented a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System to ensure a secure working environment. Key elements of this system include:

  • Strategic Action Plan: Developed at the corporate level, this plan outlines standards, procedures, and processes, which are reviewed and tracked monthly for effectiveness.
  • Digital Platforms: These platforms are used for enhancing competency and capability building for both employees and workers.
  • Awareness Campaigns: Various campaigns, events, and initiatives are organized to build awareness and foster a culture of safety on the ground.
  • Training and Monitoring: Continuous training and monitoring, along with effective process safety management controls at sites.
  • Vehicle and Traffic Safety Management: Well-established systems to ensure safety in vehicular and traffic management.
  • Leadership Engagement: Active engagement and involvement from senior leadership to reinforce the importance of safety and health in the workplace.
