BHUBANESWAR: Aditya Birla Group’s unit Aditya Aluminium at Lapanga in the district of Sambalpur in Odisha has celebrated the World Environment Day with great fanfare in the company premises.
This year was different for Aditya Aluminium, as it has completely transformed from Project to Operating Plant. The celebration for World Environment Day started with the plantation in the Township area wherein the Children, employees and their families participated with all enthusiasm and gaiety. Next day, there was Spot drawing competition among children. Various other activities like Slogan, Quiz, Essay and Poster competitions were held and the participation by the employees was overwhelming.
On 8 June, employees gathered in large numbers inside the Plant premise to mark the culmination of weekly celebration. The function was presided by Bibhu Mishra, President & Chief Operating Officer. Lalit Teewari, the Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Sambalpur zone was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Sushant Kumar Guru, the Power Plant Head, Kailash Nath Pandey, the Smelter Plant Head, Sudheer Kumar Gupta, Head – HR and Amit Sengupta, Head-Finance & Control were present on the Dias to grace the occasion. Ajay Chugh, Head – Smelter Projects and other dignitaries on the Dias distributed prizes to the successful participants in the events held under various categories of competitions among the employees and children.
The Chief Guest L K Tiwari explained to the Children about the origin of World Environment Day, Theme of this Year ‘Go wild for Life’ and stressed on the need to increase plantation in mass scale as it is the lowest necessity in the food Chain. Bibhu Mishra, President & COO explained the concept of Sustainable operation of industry as need of the hour. He emphasized on achieving the target plantation of one lakh trees for this year.
There was display of commitment of the Company towards Environment through One Act Play by the employees and recitation of Poems and Articles by Priyabrata Kar and Babul Prasad. Soubhagya Kumar Tripathy, Dy. General Manager( E&F) emphasized the need of Water conservation and various equipments installed and steps taken by the Company to conserve water. The celebration ended with Vote of Thanks by Debasis Mallik, Head-Casthouse to All including Peeyush Rajguru, Ranjan Jena, Suresh Dash and others present on the occasion.
