New Delhi – The Central Government has introduced a 4-year ‘Integrated Teacher Education Programme’ (ITEP) for pre-service training, to offer graduation with certain specializations namely Primary and Secondary Education.
The programme will be conducted through National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration, in all States and Union Territories.
The govt has launched Samagra Shiksha under the programme from 2018-19 which subsumes the erstwhile centrally sponsored schemes of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Teacher Education.
Samagra Shiksha focuses on various interventions to improve the quality of education such as training of in-service teachers, remedial teaching for academically weaker students, provision of library grants, digital initiatives, strengthening of teacher education institutions, Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan and Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat.
The govt has decided to participate in the programme for International Students Assessment which will be conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development in 2021.
The approval has been given for conducting a School Based Assessment of all elementary stage students in the year 2019-20, to evaluate learning outcomes.
In 2019-20, approval has been given for setting up ‘Youth and Eco Club’ in all government schools across the country.
The programme ensures the provision of quality interventions at par to schools of rural and urban areas, redeployment of teachers and teachers in school spending adequate time in serving rural areas through a transparent policy.
