WEST BOKARO: Two Youth Resource Centres under project ‘RISHTA’ at West Bokaro Division were felicitated by Mita Singhal for their performance round the year. In an event organised today here at the Conference Hall of Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), West Bokaro, the members of the Youth Resource Centres of Duni and Mukundabera villages were handed over with two computers and books required for preparation of competitive examinations.
Out of 11 Youth Resource Centres run by TSRDS in and around West Bokaro area, the Duni and Mukundabera centres were adjudged as the top two units on the basis of scores achieved in various competitions held earlier. These centres were judged on performance on nukkad natak, slogan competition, painting competition, quiz, etc. With the support provided by TSRDS in the form of computer and books, these two Centres will be developed into Library-cum-Information Centres for the benefit members of these centres.
Appreciating the RISHTA initiative of TSRDS, Ms Singhal said, “There is a great level of energy among youths and their energy needs to be channelized in the right direction for a bright and prosperous future. I am sure that the centres will use the books and computers properly for the benefit of its members.”
Among others present on the occasion were Manisha Hota, Deepa Gupta, Meenakshi Kuchroo, Rosy Sudheer, Jyoti Rao, Sapple Gupta and Dr Nivedita Nanda, Senior Registrar, Tata Central Hopital, West Bokaro.
RISHTA (Regional Initiatives for Safe Sexual Health by Today’s Adolescents) project was started in West Bokaro Division in September 2013. There are 11 YRCs in different villages of West Boakro Division (Pundi, Bhutahi, Bongahara, Jharna Basti, Mukundabera, Duni, Atna, Sirka, Banjee, Fakodih and Parsabera) having 3032 adolescents as members.
While the event was coordinated by Keshav Ranjan, Unit Head, TSRDS, the vote of thanks was given by Col. Bhawani Singh Nirwan, Head, Administration, Tata Steel, West Bokaro Division.
It may be noted here that project RISHTA aims to increase knowledge and change beliefs and practices about the reproductive and sexual health of boys and girls, married or unmarried, between the age-group of 12-19 years. The project has a special focus on understanding changes during adolescence, gender equality, conception and contraceptive use, RTI/STI and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, nutrition and health, etc.
