About 160 Students and Women Planted more than 250 trees on International Day for Biological Diversity. Community Members and Students were sensitized on importance of Biodiversity and Environment

ANGUL (Odisha): Facilitated by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, about 100 students from Tubey High School & Jindal Vidyapith along with 60 women of Jan Jeevika Kendra participated in global ‘Green Wave’ campaign on May 22, 2014, on the occasion of International Day for Biological Diversity,.
The students and women planted more than 250 saplings in their respective campuses.
Prakash Tewari, Group Vice-President (Education & CSR) of JSPL, P.R. Jha, AGM (NABARD) and Pranab Prakash Dash, DDM (NABARD) joined the students at Tubey High School to encourage the students and spread awareness on preserving and sustaining biodiversity.
Students of Tubey High School participated in the Campaign as Green Soldiers Students’ Club and planted 100 sapling sin their School Campus. Bidush Chandra Pradhan (President, Tubey Village Watershed Committee), Himanshu Pradhan (Secretary, Tubey VWC), Chittaranjan Sahoo (Head Master, Tubey High School) and Deepali Panda, CSR JSPL were present on the occasion.
Students of Jindal Vidyapith participated in the campaing as Aranya Students’ Group and Women of Jan Jeevika Kendra participated as the Harit Mitr Women’s Group. Together they planted more than 150 saplings in Jindal Vidyapith and Jan Jeevika Kendra campuses. Mrs. Puspalata Satpathy, AGM (CSR) of JSPL, Dipti Reka Das (Principal, Jindal Vidyapth), Hrushikesh Dehury (President, School Managing Committee, Jindal Vidyapith) along with other community members were present during the plantation and awareness programme.
“With facilitation of JSPL, Students and Women from Angul joined the thousands of people across the globe participated in the ‘Green Wave’ Campaign to celebrate both the International Day for Biodiversity and the United Nations Decade on Biodiversity 2011-2020. I hope the special tree planting celebrations will help in increasing awareness among the community on preserving biodiversity, which is the critical necessity for sustaining life in the planet” said Prashant Kumar Hota, Vice-President (CSR & Corp. Comm.) of JSPL.
Dinesh Kumar Saraogi, Executive Director (I/C) and Location Head congratulated the students, teachers and the community for their active association in the environment protection initiatives of JSPL.
The Green Wave is a project designed to support the objectives of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the world’s international treaty that promotes the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits derived from genetic resources. The project aims to help raise awareness and educate young people on the loss of biodiversity that is taking place and the need to take action.
