172 villagers treated and given free medicines

SINGRAULI: 62-year-old Paanpati Shah, who had been suffering from stomach infection and weakness, finally got relief for after he was diagnosed and given free medicines at a health camp organized by Mahan Coal Ltd for the people of Ameliya village in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh on April 22, 2014.
Likewise, Poonam Shah, a 6 year-old girl who was suffering from fever received free treatment at this camp. “My daughter was not keeping well for the entire week. She could not eat and vomited whenever she had food which made me anxious. When I came to know Mahan Coal Ltd. was organizing a free camp, I decided to take her along. I am grateful to the doctors and people who organized this camp for treating my daughter so well”, said her mother.
These were some of the happy voices that echoed during the day when Mahan Coal Ltd organized a day long free medical camp for the people of Ameliya village as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programme. Prominent medical practitioners like Dr. Pankaj Singh, Dr. Sukhsagar, Dr. Sushil Badagaiiya, Dr. V.F. Gaharwar and dentist Dr. Prateek Srivastav helped the poor villagers with free medical advice and medicines.
The camp enthusiastic participation from the villagers of Ameliya with a total of 172 people including 74 women were treated for various ailments like fever, cough, renal disorders, and dental and eye check-up. Twenty women and children were administered vaccines and two patients with serious ailments were referred to the district hospital, Waidhan, Singrauli with support from the company. About 10 doctors and 15 nurses participated in the daylong camp.
A camp of hope
Mr. Ramakant Tiwari, CEO, Mahan Coal Ltd said, “By regularly organizing such health camps, we wish to bring a sense of care and compassion for the local villagers of Ameliya, Budher and Suggu villages that lie in the area of our operations. Such camps help treatment for basic health problems at an early stage leading to the improvement of the overall health index of the villagers. We are committed to the long-term wellbeing and overall development of the local community who may not be able to afford doctor visits and other healthcare expenses. This is in line with our company’s vision of ensuring that the local people have access to modern medical care.”
Dr. Pankaj Singh, Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Singrauli said, “Efforts like this help in bringing the benefits of medical science to local communities. This initiative by Mahan Coal Ltd is most welcome and will go a long way in benefitting the local villagers with good health and detection of common diseases. It is good to see a corporate house fulfilling its social promise and taking genuine initiatives to come closer to the villagers by organizing such free medical camps.”
Dr. O.P.N. Sinha, Senior Consultant, Mahan Coal Ltd. graced the occasion along with senior company officials. , Mr Mahaatmaram Verma, Block Health Centre and villager volunteers Lalchand Shah, Sudama Prasad Shah, Mrs Shanti Singh, Mrs Sheetli Saket, Ramji Yadav and Prahlad Panika were present to support and facilitate the running of the day long camp.
For the past three years Mahan Coal Ltd has been organizing similar free medical camps in and around the three villages of Ameliya, Budher and Suggu and till date over 1500 villagers have attended and benefited from such initiative. It will continue in its efforts to bring the benefits of modern healthcare and medicine to the villagers’ doorstep.
