MALANPUR (India CSR): Serious questions are being raised over the utilization of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds in the Malanpur Industrial Area of Madhya Pradesh (MP). While government records and corporate reports suggest extensive work in education, health, and sanitation, local residents claim the benefits are failing to reach the grassroots level.
Allegations of Ghost Projects and Mismanagement
Local residents, including Brijendra Bansal and Sachin Sharma, have publicly accused companies and certain Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) of colluding to misuse development funds. According to their claims:
- Paper-Only Projects: Many development schemes are shown as “completed” in official documents, yet no physical infrastructure or service exists on the ground.
- Infrastructure Deficit: Despite being a major industrial hub, the surrounding rural pockets still struggle with a lack of basic amenities like clean drinking water and functional healthcare centers.
- NGO Collusion: Critics argue that some NGOs are being used as shells to siphon off funds meant for community welfare, leaving local villagers in the lurch.
Impact on the Local Community
Under CSR guidelines, companies are mandated to invest a portion of their profits into the local community. In Malanpur, where industrial activity is high, the expected transformation in public health and employment has remained elusive for many. The disconnect between “official success” and “ground-level failure” has led to growing resentment among the local youth and social activists.
Administration Orders Inquiry
Taking note of the mounting complaints, Naib Tehsildar RK Srivastava has stepped in to address the concerns. He stated that the matter is being treated with priority.
“We have received reports regarding the lack of transparency in CSR spending. I will be discussing these allegations with senior officials to initiate a formal investigation into the matter,” said Srivastava.
