Celebrating 1.5 Million Minutes of Service, STAR Nanakramguda Harmonizes International Best Practices into a Definitive Life-Saving Protocol for India
HYDERABAD: In a medical emergency, the difference between life and death is often measured in seconds. Recognizing that standardizing every moment is the key to survival, the Department of Emergency Medicine at STAR Hospitals, Nanakramguda, has officially unveiled its “ED Protocol Handbook.” The launch coincides with a significant milestone: the facility has successfully completed 1.5 million minutes of emergency service at its Nanakramguda location, marking a legacy of relentless 24/7 vigilance.
A Global Blueprint for Local Lives
The ED Protocol Handbook is one of the most comprehensive collections of emergency procedures in the country. It is the result of an intensive global study by the STAR Emergency Team, who analysed and integrated the best practices from the United Kingdom, United States, Australia & other countries.
These international benchmarks were meticulously customized to suit the specific clinical needs and demographics of Indian patients. The handbook serves as a step-by-step tactical guide for clinicians, ensuring that from the moment a patient enters the bay, no time is lost to indecision or process gaps.

Beyond Technology: The Power of Process
“In a rapidly growing city like Hyderabad, having the best technology is only half the battle,” said Dr. Rahul Katta, Group Lead for the Emergency Department, STAR Hospitals. “The real lifesaver is a standardized guideline that makes every minute count. Our journey over the last 1.5 million minutes has taught us that precision in protocol is what truly scales the impact of our medical expertise.”
Emergency care at STAR Hospitals begins long before the hospital doors – it begins in the back of the ambulance. Our advanced, tech-enabled ambulances function as moving emergency rooms, where trained paramedics immediately initiate life-saving interventions following internationally accepted emergency protocols. Oxygen support, cardiac monitoring, IV medications, airway management – critical care begins on the move.
What makes it even more powerful is real-time virtual consultation. From inside the ambulance, our emergency physicians and specialists are connected digitally, guiding every step of treatment. Vital parameters are shared live, clinical updates are communicated continuously, and expert decisions are taken even before the patient reaches the hospital. By the time the patient arrives at STAR Hospitals, the Emergency team is fully prepared – diagnosis initiated, stabilization underway, and definitive care ready without delay. With structured protocols ensuring seamless handover from ambulance to ER, we protect what matters most during the Golden Hour – time.
The newly launched Emergency Handbook further ensures a seamless handover from ambulance to Emergency Department, eliminating delays during the crucial Golden Hour and maintaining continuity of care at every step.

The protocol handbook was officially unveiled by the Chief Guest, Sri. Ranjan Rathan Kumar, Dy. Commissioner of Police (Traffic Cyberabad), in the presence of the STAR Hospitals leadership team:

Our goal is to ensure that once they reach us, the care they receive is world-class, immediate, and beyond reproach.”
