DEHRADUN: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHD Chamber) in collaboration with Doon University at Doon university Dehradun organized a seminar on responsible corporate academia-corporate interface for up-skilling leaders of Tomorrow’ on 8 Sept 2012.
The objective of the seminar was very well introduced by Mr. Anil Taneja while moderating the inaugural session stating that the Corporate world is engaged consistently to create means of better living with the help of FLOW of Knowledge from the Academic world. That flow is constrained due to many issues in India like skill gap, disconnect between corporate and academia etc.
The various topics were taken up for the panel discussion: Synergy between Industry & Academia to bridge the skill gap. The representation will be from Industry and Academia Top Mgt. Industry intervention and linkages in curriculum reforms & learning outcomes.
The inaugural session was chaired by the vice chancellor of Doon University Prof V.K.Jain who introduced the subject matter after the Chairman PHD Chamber Uttarakhand Mr. Mukesh Joshi welcome address. VC said that Employability challenge can be addressed by the experimentation and that need to be funded. The guest of honour Mr. Ajit K Motwani, CEO-Education Business, Salwan Media & Advisor: Knowledge Consortium, Govt. of Gujarat. Thanks giving for the inaugural session was given by the partner Nangia & Co. CA firm and Co Chair Uttarakhand Virendra Kala.
Prof Durg Singh Chauhan, Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University said that Logistics in the academia need to be developed from the instructions by Industry. The most important is the value system improvisation in the social fabric. Dr. Gopal Ranjan, Director general, College of Engineering Roorkee. Presented the ppt and emphasised Innovation through science and Technology , mastery in the knowledge production will be the key factor to take a lead for the industry.
Prof Aman Agarwal,Vice Chairman & Prof Finance, Indian Institute of Finance, Delhi stated that after his ground level observations across the globe there are n no. of models for a productive and innovative models of synergetic and productive connect between the Academia and corporate. We need to just pick some and channelize our efforts. Dr Santosh Rangnekar, HOD Management, IIT Roorkee shared that they are already offering the cost free facility to the industry for availing the facilities of IIT Roorkee. Mr. S.K.Sharma , Gr.GM ONGC raised a big issue by example that for filling 450 posts more than 80000 applicant did not suffice for the blue coller job in ONGC in one of the recruitment sprees.
Mr. Mukesh Goyal, Haridwar Head and Hero MotoCorp.Mr. Arun Raghav, HR Head, ITC Haridwar talked about the ethical practices that corporate are working on to sustain the productivity of the employed and unfortunately the socio Economic structure of our society needs attention. The question was raised by Anil Taneja on valuing the dignity of labour by addressing the disparity of pay packages between blue collar and whit collar, as skill gap according the World Economic Forum is a very big challenge for next 20 yeras.
One more session was chaired by Dr. V Pathak, Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Open University. He said that Academics need better practical approach and more such programs are need but with sustainable adoption. Prof Sanjay Jasola, Vice Chancellor, GEHU was impressed by the title “Learning outcomes” which is critical for reforms. The learning outcomes need to backed by the industry and should be measurable and should be fit for demonstration. Mr. B S Sehrawat, HR Head, ACME Tele Power Ltd.
Expressed his concern for the struggle for an HR person in a corporate to employee the blue collered.
Mr. S K Patra, CEO, Patanjali Food Park emphasized that our socio economic fabric does not need any degrees to be into business or the degrees are not sufficient to be successful employer in our society. Mr. Ajit K Motwani, CEOEducation Business, Salwan Media & Advisor, Knowledge Consortium, Govt. of Gujarat emphasized the need of Information Communication technology to be strongly integrated in the academia and industry as well. The Generation gap as per Secretary PHD Chamber Mr Jatinder Singh is critical issue to be addressed for more efficient tapping of the Demographic dividend of our young country. The policy cruch is due to that gap.
