Much to the knowledge of customers, COVID-19 has served as a catalyst for telehealth services around the medical industry. At that time, various patients were not willing to visit doctors in person due to the risks associated with the infection. In such circumstances, telehealth offers a convenient alternative. The remote care service still holds significant value in today’s world. Notably, it has been reshaping the medical landscape and prompting medical insurance providers to meet the demand conveniently. Let’s find out the connection between the health insurance policy and telehealth services.

The Inception of Telehealth – The Start of a New Era

Take telehealth as a perfect mode to opt for various healthcare services in different forms. It may be a video consultation or remote patient monitoring. Besides, patients can be served through mobile health applications. Altogether, the benefits of telehealth are endless. It has improved access to patient care in rural areas and reduced travel expenses. In addition, it has also alleviated the burden on medical facilities and reduced risks of contamination via infectious diseases.

These services are quite demanding, and they continue to gain immense significance. Considering their importance, even medical insurance companies have started embracing them conveniently. Insurance providers earlier had limited coverage for telehealth solutions. They viewed them as the alternative instead of just a mainstream choice. Nevertheless, as the pandemic shifted people’s focus, insurers have started implementing technologically advanced methodologies to include them.

Teleconsultation vs Telehealth – Which is Better?

Note that telehealth and teleconsultation are both different topics, whereas people use them interchangeably. Tabulated below are the differences between these two:

AspectsTeleconsultationTelehealth
MeaningExclusively includes clinical servicesOffers limited medical services Includes both non-clinical and clinical solutions Offers a wider scope of medical solutions
ExamplesThe best examples of teleconsultation are:Remote consultation between patients and doctorsMonitoring patient’s conditionsOffering health educationA few examples include the following:Remote medical evaluationDigital consultation Medical screening Healthcare report sharingVideos and images (and more)

From the above differences, it can be concluded that telehealth has a broader range and scope.

One quick note: Notably, there are two types of telehealth solutions. Firstly, clinical telehealth solutions include services offered by healthcare professionals remotely to patients. On the other hand, the non-clinical telehealth solutions include administrative meetings and medical education.

Perks of Telehealth in Healthcare Insurance Policies

The following are the benefits of telehealth in medical insurance policies:

Managing Severe Health Conditions

Patients suffering from chronic illnesses can visit doctors. Telehealth from insurance companies help save time through online consultations. This type of service ensures that you don’t have to spare additional time for physical visits to the medical clinic or hospital.

Offers Contactless Consultation

Selecting teleconsultation ensures contactless sessions with the doctor. There’s no need to get exposed to the physical world where you may get in contact with others. That would otherwise increase the risks of certain infectious diseases.

Reduces Your Medical Expenses

Telehealth offers online consultations with which you can closely monitor your disease. In addition, it also prevents symptoms from worsening. Altogether, telehealth ensures timely consultation without giving extra time to travel to the doctor’s chamber or clinic.

Save You in the Long-Run

Attending a virtual appointment with a medical associate helps you save more time. It is also affordable. You can easily invest in a medical facility and save money in the long term.

Wrap up

Health insurance providers embrace innovation by supporting the changing requirements of healthcare providers and patients. They can adjust to telehealth solutions and make healthcare solutions more discoverable among patients through online surveys.
