The initiatives by the organization in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tripura, and Karnataka will benefit the local communities
Sewa International, a global non-profit organization that provides hands-on relief to the Indian community, continues its COVID-19 rehab projects across the country. Inspired by the spirit of ‘Service before self,’ Sewa International is working alongside several organizations on multiple projects to prepare for the third wave of Covid19 on multiple initiatives to facilitate holistic healthcare support, skill development, integrated livelihood and education amongst various stakeholders of the society including children, women, and farmers and the last and marginalised mile of the society.
The organization is working in various states across India directly or through partner organisations for the ground rehabilitation program with prioritized focus in Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tripura, and Karnataka.
Under one such initiative, Sanitisation, Hygiene and Empowerment – COVID Affected Families (SHE-CAF) project, around 2,000 women beneficiaries are being identified and provided with counseling sessions, certified skill training programs and appropriate livelihood opportunities through entrepreneurship and employment. The objective is to empower women who are socio-economically affected, especially after the second wave of COVID-19. In addition, Sewa International’s initiative, Sponsor A Child – COVID-Affected Families (SaC-CAF), will ensure education for children by providing financial assistance and emotional support.
In Uttarakhand, their main focus has been to inculcate healthier and more sustainable farming practices by developing seed banks and training centres for the farmers known as Sewa Krishi Sansadhan Kendra to facilitate updated farming equipment and technology along with skill training sessions.
Another notable highlight is the project Bru tribe Rehabilitation Initiative in Tripura, where the organization has been active since 2017 in the North Tripura District. Sewa International has initiated a mobile health initiative, integrated fish farming project and Arecanut plant to support the holistic development of the community both in terms of livelihood and public health ecosystem. The organization is committed to reach out to over 50,000 beneficiaries through these integrated initiatives in North-Tripura, Khowai and Dhalai Districts.
Speaking on the same, Abhishek Kumar, Director-Program Development at Sewa International, said, “There is no doubt that communities across the country were severely affected by the pandemic. Since the health crisis struck us, we have been working to rehabilitate people by providing livelihood opportunities. Our major focus has been on educating children and imparting skill training to women and those who lost their jobs during the lockdown. We at Sewa International, are committed to provide and facilitate an integrated model of community development that enables the beneficiaries to lead a healthy and happy life.”
Moving towards the vision of creating a world of equal opportunities, the organization is active in the health sector too. As a part of the COVID-19 rehab projects, Sewa International runs multiple health and hygiene initiatives, including WASH (Water, Sanitation & Hygiene) program, Swastha School, and Sewa Aarogyam.
