DEHRADUN (India CSR): In a significant step towards enhancing road safety and insurance awareness, Zurich Kotak General Insurance has partnered with Dehradun Traffic Police to educate the public about responsible driving and the importance of motor insurance.
The initiative, held in Dehradun, brought together law enforcement officers, insurance experts, and local stakeholders to emphasize the need for safe road practices and mandatory vehicle insurance coverage. With an increasing number of uninsured vehicles on Indian roads, this campaign aims to bridge the gap between awareness and action, ensuring that citizens are well-informed about their responsibilities.
Uniting for a Safer Road Environment
The event kicked off with an interactive discussion on road safety, where officials highlighted key risk factors, including rash driving, lack of insurance, and non-adherence to traffic rules. Experts shed light on real-life accident statistics and how insurance coverage plays a crucial role in protecting individuals and communities from financial burdens.
Speaking at the event, Mukesh Thakur, SP Traffic, Dehradun, stressed the importance of public awareness campaigns in reducing accidents and legal violations. He urged citizens to prioritize road safety and abide by traffic laws.
Mandatory Insurance: A Critical Need
With many vehicles on Indian roads lacking mandatory third-party insurance, Jagdish Chandra Pant, Circle Officer (Traffic), emphasized:
“Third-party motor insurance is legally required for all vehicles. It is not just about avoiding penalties—it is about financial security and legal compliance in case of accidents.”
Supporting this view, Traffic Inspector Jitendra Joshi reaffirmed that the Dehradun police are committed to conducting more awareness programs, ensuring that citizens understand the serious consequences of uninsured driving.
Addressing the Growing Concern of Uninsured Vehicles
One of the most pressing issues raised was the high percentage of uninsured two-wheelers on Indian roads. Arvind Inamdar from Zurich Kotak General Insurance highlighted this challenge:
“Studies suggest that nearly 70% of two-wheelers on the road are uninsured. This exposes both riders and pedestrians to financial and legal risks in case of accidents. Timely insurance renewal is crucial to avoid unnecessary liabilities.”
The discussion also covered how vehicle owners can easily renew insurance, what to look for in comprehensive coverage, and how third-party insurance protects against financial losses in accidents involving bodily injuries.
Creating a Lasting Impact Through Education and Action
Zurich Kotak General Insurance aims to extend this initiative beyond Dehradun, collaborating with law enforcement agencies and local communities across multiple cities. The company is committed to enhancing road safety standards through education, awareness programs, and seamless insurance solutions.
The event concluded with a commitment to ongoing collaborations, ensuring that road safety remains a top priority. Through such initiatives, Zurich Kotak General Insurance and Dehradun Traffic Police are working towards a future where every vehicle is insured, every driver is responsible, and road accidents are significantly reduced.
