Who is Rajesh Gopinathan? A Closer Look at His Lifestyle, Education, Salary, and Net Worth

His simple lifestyle and dedication to his work have earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers in the Indian corporate world.

TCS recently announced that CEO Rajesh Gopinathan has resigned to pursue other interests.

India’s one of the largest IT company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), announced on Thursday that CEO Rajesh Gopinathan has resigned to pursue other interests. Resigning as TCS CEO is a “mixed” feeling, Gopinathan said in a media briefing this morning. Rajesh Gopinathan is a prominent figure in the Indian corporate world, who served as the CEO and Managing Director of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Rajesh rises to the top of one of India’s largest companies is a testament to his hard work and dedication to his career. Despite his success, he remains grounded and committed to his family and personal interests. His simple lifestyle and dedication to his work have earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers in the Indian corporate world.

Lifestyle of Rajesh Gopinathan

Rajesh Gopinathan is known for his simple lifestyle and down-to-earth personality. Despite being one of the most powerful executives in the Indian IT industry, he is known to avoid ostentatious displays of wealth and maintains a low profile. He prefers spending his free time with family and friends, and is said to be an avid reader.

Education of Rajesh Gopinathan

Rajesh Gopinathan was born in Kerala and completed his schooling in Chennai. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electrical and Electronics from Regional Engineering College, Trichy (now National Institute of Technology, Trichy). He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A). He got his Postgraduate Diploma in Management.

Career at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)

Rajesh Gopinathan joined TCS in 2001, and since then, he has held various positions within the company. Prior to becoming CEO, he served as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Vice President of Business Finance in TCS. Under his leadership, TCS has continued to grow and expand its business globally. In 2019, TCS became the first Indian IT services company to cross the $100 billion market capitalization mark.

Salary and Net Worth of Rajesh Gopinathan

Rajesh Gopinathan’s salary as CEO of TCS is estimated to be around Rs. 16.02 crore (approximately $2.1 million) per year. He also receives stock options and other benefits as part of his compensation package. As of 2023, his net worth is estimated to be around $15 million, primarily due to his stock options in TCS. Rajesh Gopinathan’s total compensation in the financial year 2021-22 increased by 26.6 per cent to Rs 25.75 crore. You read that right! It included – salary of Rs 1.5 crore, benefits and allowance of Rs 2.25 crore, and a total commission (from earnings) of Rs 22 crore. In its annual report, the company mentioned, TCS pays remuneration by salary, benefits, perquisites and allowances (fixed component) and commission (variable component) to its managing director and the executive directors.

Rajesh Gopinathan’s career

In July 2022, Rajesh Gopinathan was proposed to the Board of Commerce by the Indian government. He belongs to both the UK Investment Council and the CII National Council. That’s not all, he is a part of India-US CEO Forum and the 2001 India-Japan Business Leaders Forum.

He significantly contributed to TCS becoming the Fortune 500 firms’ preferred partner. Initially, Rajesh Gopinathan was given the Financial management role in the company when he was hired as vice president. In 2013, he was appointed as CFO. TCS released a statement saying, “He has played a vital role in helping TCS become a $16.5 billion worldwide organisation with over 371,000 workers,” Times Now reported.
