Vedanta Ltd conducted a training-cum-demonstration programme on commercial cultivation of marigold for women farmers in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district.
The all-women flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme was organised in collaboration with Subhalaxmi Cooperative, a company release said.
The sessions were attended by more than 87 women farmers of Subhalaxmi Co-operative, belonging to 26 Self Help Groups (SHG).
The commercial floriculture training-cum-demonstration program is one of the company’s many efforts to encourage women entrepreneurship in rural Jharsuguda, the release said.
Over 30 other training programmes in trades including mushroom cultivation, tailoring, poultry, goat farming, dairy, vegetable cultivation, floriculture, have been planned for 2019-20 (Apr-Mar), with the intention to reach nearly 860 members of the Subhalaxmi Co-op, it said furter.
“Through Subhalaxmi Co-op, we organize various initiatives aimed at helping women in rural folds of Jharsuguda take up sustainable, fulfilling and rewarding means of livelihood,” Sundar Raj, Head CSR at Vedanta said.
The co-operative also supports 1,779 women entrepreneurs in farm & non-farm trades microfinance services, and is likely to add over 600 new entrepreneurs into the fold by the end of 2020.
