BHUBANESWAR/ Kalyansinghpur: Heavy rains have triggered flash floods in Kalyansinghpur of Rayagada district. Over 10,000 people have been affected by the flood according to reports. The Nagbali and Kalyani rivers are in spate which has worsened the situation on ground. All communication has been cut-off as people are marooned and unable to access basic amenities in a few regions.
Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh has chipped in the flood affected regions of Butaguda panchayat in Kalyansinghpur block with relief aid in coordination with the district administration. Since yesterday, medical assistance through ambulance support, paramedical staff and medicines has reached out to the affected people along with resident company doctors. Today, the CSR team along with employee volunteers distributed rice, daal, water packets, biscuits, chuda in Kumbhariguda, Kataguda and Dilunda villages. Approximately, 300 families have benefitted through this intervention.
Speaking on the relief efforts, Ajay Kumar Dixit, CEO – Vedanta Alumina & Power, said that “Vedanta stands by its commitment to serve people during such testing times. We will extend all possible support as required by the district administration”.
Updating the ongoing company efforts at flood affected regions, Bimalananda Senapati, COO – Vedanta Lanjigarh said that the company has already mobilized all possible support like food, healthcare, and medicines in the flood hit areas and is closely working with the district administration to alleviate the situation. MLA Bissamcuttack – Jagannath Saraka has welcomed the intervention of Vedanta in the affected areas and has also urged social workers to come forward to help the people in need.
