JHARSUGUDA: As a part of its continuing effort to promote and inculcate safety consciousness among the plant personnel, 41st National Safety week was observed today here at the premises of Vedanta Aluminium Ltd (VAL) Jharsuguda. On this occasion, safety related programmes were conducted in which plant personnel from all sections along with employees and Chiefs of partner companies participated.
The Safety week is being observed from 4-10 March 2012 marking the foundation of National Safety Council of India and to observe this year’s National Safety Day theme “Ensure safe and Healthy Working Environment – A Fundamental right.”
Mr. Gopal Chandra Bishoi Deputy Director of Factories & Boiler, Sambalpur Division graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Mr. Pramod Suri, CEO Vedanta JSG, Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO, Dr. Rajeev Nayan, Head HR graced the occasion as the dignitaries among others. Before commencing the event, safety badges were distributed and followed by Safety pledge both in Oriya & English was administered.
Today on 06th March, commemorating the event, Dr. Rajeev Nayan gave the Welcome Speech and Mr. Abhijit Pati, COO highlighted on the various safety measures practised in the Plant premises. He quoted that Safety is not only management’s responsibility; it is the responsibility of individuals. Everybody has a right to work in a safe and secure working condition. Safety First and Production next; all should practise upon, he cited precisely. Speaking on the Occasion Mr. Bisoi in his speech appreciated Vedanta for the reduction of industrial accident rate to zero percent in its premises.
He also advised to maintain the same spirit for further years. Mr. Suri said, “Safety has got a prime importance in our life and this precious human life can’t be wasted with any act of unsafe condition. Round the Clock we must observe safety because a small act of negligence can also cause a major disaster.”
Various Prizes were given away to the winners under various categories among the employees and labourer. School Children from peripheral areas who had participated in various competitions earlier, organised by VAL were also given prizes during this occasion. Finally, Mr. Dayanidhi Behera, Head Plant-I gave the vote of thanks.
