MUMBAI (India CSR): In a groundbreaking moment for India, the Gates Foundation and Sachin Tendulkar Foundation have joined forces to uplift the nation’s children. What started with viral videos of Bill Gates and Sachin Tendulkar savoring vada pav and inventing “Crennis” has culminated in a powerful collaboration. Announced on March 25, 2025, this partnership aims to revolutionize healthcare, education, nutrition, and rural development. Here’s how two icons turned a snack break into a movement for India’s future.

Snack Sparks Collaboration

It all began with a teaser that set social media ablaze: Bill Gates and Sachin Tendulkar enjoying Mumbai’s iconic vada pav. Captioned “A snack break before we get to work,” the video ended with a cryptic “Serving soon.” Gates, in India to celebrate the Gates Foundation’s 25th anniversary, hinted at a major announcement. The vada pav moment wasn’t just a cultural nod—it was the appetizer to a partnership that promises to nourish India’s next generation.

Crennis Steals Spotlight

Next came “Crennis”—a delightful mashup of cricket and tennis. In a viral clip, Gates prepared to serve a tennis ball, only for Tendulkar to counter with a cricket stance. “I thought we were playing tennis,” Gates laughed. “Bill, it’s Crennis—cricket meets tennis,” Tendulkar shot back. Sharing vada pav courtside, Tendulkar added, “Sport teaches teamwork, life demands the same.” The playful exchange foreshadowed their teamwork off the court, igniting buzz about a Gates-Tendulkar alliance.

Partnership Officially Sealed

The climax arrived with a jersey exchange between Bill Gates, Sachin Tendulkar, and Dr. Anjali Tendulkar. This heartfelt moment, captured on video, marked the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Gates Foundation (GF) and Sachin Tendulkar Foundation (STF). Focused on children’s holistic growth, the collaboration targets healthcare, nutrition, education, and rural upliftment. Signed with smiles, it’s a pledge to blend global vision with local action for lasting change.

Foundations Join Forces

The Sachin Tendulkar Foundation, launched in 2019 by Sachin and Dr. Anjali Tendulkar, has already impacted over 100,000 lives. With a mission to empower underprivileged kids through sports, education, and healthcare, STF brings grassroots expertise to the table. The Gates Foundation, a global philanthropy titan, adds its vast resources and innovation. Together, they’re set to tackle India’s toughest challenges, ensuring every child has a shot at a brighter future.
