NEW DELHI: ‘NGO India 2012’, a unique concept on an exposition platform, is all set to take place for the first time in India at the Epicentre, Gurgaon during 16 -18 March, 2012. Organised by UBM India, the non-profit initiative follows the spectacular success witnessed at similar events hosted by UBM group in Brazil and London, where the events are now held annually.
In continuation with their efforts, UBM now attempts to support NGOs in India by creating a structured exhibition and conference forum which allows non-profit- organisations to network and spread awareness about the work being done by them.
The multi-platform initiative is designed to meet the needs of NGOs and the various stakeholder groups that engage them. The event is poised to play an integral role in facilitating domestic and international NGOs to meet CSR professionals and identify how they can collaborate and better serve the needs for the larger benefit of the community. The event will also provide a wider platform for NGOs to connect directly with their peers, pro-active humanitarians, funding bodies and policy-makers and provide them opportunity to learn from their experience and gain insights on governance and social challenges.
NGOs involved in Education, Livelihoods, Environment and the Empowerment of Disadvantaged groups (such as children, women, elderly people, disabled people, people with curable and non curable diseases and the homeless) have come forward to be part of the 160 exhibiting organisations.
The event is supported by Guidestar India, Oxfam India, The National Trust, The Economic Times, INDIACSR (India’s Largest CSR Network) and Eco-Business.com, etc.
Most corporate and business houses are mandated to contribute in societal and environmental improvement. Several of them have defined their corporate policy in a manner such as it includes social responsibilities. However, lack of trust, knowledge and processes to operationalize the improvements, prevent complete collaborative involvement. The upcoming event offers a useful environment where CSR professionals and corporate houses can interact and network with various NGOs for meeting their social responsibility goals.
The well conceptualized knowledge –sharing sessions at the conference and workshop will propel thought-leadership and highlight challenges being faced by the Indian NGOs. Opportunities to form alliances with experts in administration, governance, fund-raising, as well as marketing and communications will enable NGOs to improve on their work and delivery management.
The stall space to the various participating NGOs is being provided free of cost. The not-for-profit initiative taken by UBM India will enable large number of domestic and International NGOs to create awareness of their existence in India and attempts at improving the eco-system. Spread over three-days, the concluding day of the event is open to the general public who can visit exhibiting NGOs at the venue and explore various volunteering opportunities where there find synergy of interest.
“We have seen substantial benefits to the NGOs that have participated in our events in London and Brazil and we hope to replicate this success in India. It has been an excellent platform for NGOs to highlight their work and for CSR professionals to identify and network with NGOs operating in a large number of fields and geographies” remarked Sanjeev Khaira, Managing Director, UBM India.
