The Vodafone Cycling Marathon Is Back!

: This New Year, the resolution for Bengalurians will be cycling and healthy life. Vodafone India, one of India’s leading telecommunications service providers, today announced the second edition of Bengaluru’s biggest cycling extravaganza – VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015.

With the grand success of its maiden edition in 2014, the VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015 will further endeavor to encourage the spirit of cycling for passion, fun and greener environment in the city across all age groups. Bengaluru has always been considered as a haven for cyclists and in this era of environmental awareness, cycling to work and for small errands, is the preferred option. The event will serve as an ideal platform for people to pedal their way to well-being and healthy living.

The second edition of VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON will be held on 1st March, 2015 and is expected to see more than 8,000 Cyclists including 150 elite licensed cyclists of CFI from across India. The event is recognized by Cycling Federation of India (CFI) .The event will also be acknowledged in the National & International Calendar of cycling events.

VODAFONECommenting on the second edition, Suresh Kumar, Operation Director – South, Vodafone India said, “As a responsible corporate, we’ve championed several projects and initiatives that have helped improve lives and created a positive impact in the community. VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015 is a continuous effort to promote the cycling culture in the city and at the same time help the community to lead a healthy life in a greener environment.”

Speaking on the second edition, Atanu Batabyal, Business Head – Karnataka, Vodafone India said, “With the success of our maiden edition, we are confident that the people in Bengaluru will come out in large number to participate in the second edition. There is a need for people in the city to take to cycling to cope up with heavy traffic and pollution. The second edition of VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015, promises to be bigger and better with more riders and more fun.”

India Cares will be the Philanthropy partner for VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015 and a significant portion of the funds raised will be used to support a variety of social causes in the areas of Education, Empowerment and Environment. Every rider can choose to support education of a child, sponsor vocational training for the differently abled, support animal welfare, planting of trees and lake rejuvenation making Bengaluru cleaner and greener. VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015 will allow applicants to choose from across 4 different categories like Champion Race – 60 km; Passion Race – 40 km; Green Ride – 20 km and Fashion Ride – 5 km. There will also be a fun-filled Kids Ride for children below 5 years. The total prize money for the Champion Race will be INR 10 lakhs with the winner getting INR 2.5 lakhs, the first runner up INR 1.75 lakhs, the second runner up INR 1.25 lakhs, and the third runner up INR 1.00 lakh. The remaining amount of INR 3.5 lakhs will be divided among 20 consolation winners.

For the Passion Race, the cash prize worth INR 2 lakhs will be divided among top 5 finishers and the participants in all the 4 categories will be given E-Certificates of merit as well as medals.

“The Cycling Federation of India has a vision to promote the wonderful sport of cycling and also has a social responsibility to create a greener, cleaner and healthier environment. We are extending our full support to the VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON. Like for the first edition, we are very happy to be associated with Vodafone India to make this event successful,” said Onkar Singh, Secretary General, Cycling Federation of India (CFI).

With aggressive on-ground awareness campaigns/ workshops on benefits of cycling, promoting greener environment at tech parks, malls and bicycle clubs in the city, Vodafone India has planned multiple activities which will help involve more people to learn and understand the importance of a healthier lifestyle and participate in the VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015.

VODAFONE CYCLING MARATHON 2015 will also have a carnival area on the main day buzzing with varied actives where people can enjoy musical concerts, bicycle stunts, exhibitions, painting competitions, a cycle fashion show in addition to the award ceremony.

Event participation is open to all cycling enthusiasts. Champion Race is only for elite licensed cyclists and to participate in this category, cyclists will have to contact CFI (www.cyclingfederationofindia.org) or write to them at cyclingfederationofindia@gmail.com.

The registration can be done online at www.vodafone.in/cycling and the registration fees for Passion Race (40 km) is Rs. 750, Green Ride (20 km) is Rs. 600, Fashion Ride (5 km) is Rs. 500.
