Mumbai, India CSR: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a global IT services giant, has announced that it boasts one of the world’s largest and most AI-ready workforces. This news comes as CEO K Krithivasan acknowledges the dedication of TCS employees in embracing AI learning and development initiatives.
AI Readiness: A Strategic Priority
TCS has strategically positioned itself at the forefront of the AI revolution by investing heavily in employee training and development programs focused on AI and Generative AI (GenAI) technologies. In an email to employees, Krithivasan expressed his gratitude for their commitment to upskilling, stating, “This is another tribute to the culture of engineering we have at TCS, and I am eager to see it grow from strength to strength.”
Impressive Numbers Highlight Commitment
The company’s dedication to AI readiness is evident in its impressive figures. In the fiscal year 2024, TCS employees clocked a staggering 51 million learning hours and acquired 5 million competencies related to AI and GenAI. This focus on continuous learning has resulted in a robust pipeline of over 200 GenAI engagements with clients across various industries, with Krithivasan foreseeing “a promising pipeline of future work.”
Decoupling Growth and Headcount
The rise of AI and automation technologies has led to speculation about the potential decoupling of revenue growth from headcount increases. While Krithivasan acknowledges the evolving dynamics, he emphasizes that a complete decoupling is unlikely. He explains, “You may not see immediate linearity every time. Sometimes we may be increasing the headcount in one quarter and the revenue can come up in some other quarters.”
Optimism for the Future
Despite global economic uncertainties, TCS remains optimistic about the future of the IT services industry. The company reported strong financial performance in the final quarter of FY24, with net profit exceeding expectations. This success can be attributed to increased efficiency, productivity gains, and lower subcontracting costs.
