JAMSHEDPUR: A one-day sports festival was organized at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, Karandih by Tribal Cultural Society, Tata Steel in collaboration with Jaipal Sporting Club on the auspicious occasion of birth anniversary of ‘Marang Gomke’ Jaipal Singh Munda on January 3, 2012.
An exhibition match of hockey, the favourite sport of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda, was especially organized during the programme. Teams comprising of Adivasi youths of Adityapur and Birsanagar participated in the exhibition match which was won by the Birsanagar team.
The final match of Jaipal Singh Munda Memorial Football Tournament was also played between BMS Sarjamda and LBC Ghaghidih. The Ghaghidih team won the finals.
Tribal Cultural Society, Tata Steel, has been organizing such programmes on the occasion of birth anniversaries of great personalities of Jharkhand in a bid to preserve the tribal sports, art and culture heading towards extinction. Making this effort meaningful, around 2000 sports lovers turned this festival into a grand success through their presence.
The chief guest of the programme, Mr. Biren Bhuta, Chief, CSS, Tata Steel, gave away prizes to the winners. The other dignitaries present on the occasion included Mrs Urmila Ekka, honorary joint secretary of TCS, Mrs Dilith Castleton, honorary joint secretary of TSRDS, Ravindra Murmu, Kisan Tudu and Uday Chandra Tudu of Jaipal Sporting Club and all staff of TCS.
